Alberta Jeanne (Woods) Castleberry was born in Fairview, Oklahoma on September 30, 1943 to Albert Lowell Woods and Jewell Deloria (Bromlow) Woods. As a young girl, she lived in many places throughout Oklahoma, as her father worked to build many of the facilities in Oklahoma State Parks. Jeanne attended school in Granite and in Blair before her family relocated to Borger, Texas, where she graduated from high school in 1961. Jeanne received her Associate's Degree from Frank Phillips College.
On August 7, 1963 Jeanne married Richard Lewis Castleberry in Borger, Texas, and a year later, their daughter, Regina was born. Jeanne and her family lived in Uvalde, Del Rio, and Friona, Texas before settling in Alvin, Texas in January of 1970. Alvin was Jeanne's home for over 40 years.
Jeanne dearly loved her family and was truly a favorite aunt. She was extremely generous and thoughtful. Each summer she opened her doors to nieces and nephews who loved spending time with her. She was very artistically talented and taught the whole family to make beautiful ceramic creations. She made wedding cakes for each of the brides, and hosted many family events.
Jeanne had a vivacious and fun spirit, and enjoyed both working and playing alongside her husband. She even drove a cars in Powder Puff destruction derbies at the Houston Astrodome. Jeanne was a distributor for the Houston Chronicle newspaper for 13 years, and there are great stories of the nights spent with family while working the paper routes. In more recent years, Jeanne and Richard owned and operated a trucking terminal in Alvin, Texas.
Jeanne loved all her family, but she was particularly proud to be a grandparent to her only grandson, Kyle. Jeanne is survived by her daughter, Regina Cochran, and her grandson, Kyle Schober, and also by her siblings, Dick and Juanita Faye (Woods) Bowles of Madisonville, Texas, and Karolyn Kay (Woods) Hinton of Alvin, Texas. She is preceded in heaven by her husband, Richard Castleberry; her parents, Albert and Jewell Woods; her sister, Xona Charlene (Woods) Jolley; and her brother Doyle Ray Woods.
