Graveside services for Alva "A.W." William Peck will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 31, 2010 at Ames Cemetery, Ames, Oklahoma. The Reverend Terrill Parvin will officiate. Arrangements are by Fairview Funeral Home, Inc.

A.W. was born December 14, 1932 in Ames, Oklahoma to William Jesse and Amy Leta (Gooden) Peck and passed away at the age of 77 on Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at Summit Living Center in Okeene, Oklahoma.

He attended school in Ames and Fairview, Oklahoma. In 1948, at the age of 16, he started working for Gordon Cohlmia in his grocery market in Fairview. He was united in marriage to Twyla Strecker Terry on March 14, 1952. To this union, two daughters were born, Sharon Kay and Darla Jean. He married Sherry Miller Hamen on May 20, 1967. To this union, he inherited a daughter, Vonda Leah Hamen and two sons Robert Lee Hamen Jr. and Terry Leon Hamen. A.W. helped raise two granddaughters Shawn Marie Ross Burnside and Anneka Lucille Hamen Farrington. He worked for over 30 years (1948-1978) in the grocery business mainly for Gordon Cohlmia in Fairview and 5 years of that time for Blakemore's in Enid, Kingfisher, and Ponca City and lastly at Wedel's in Fairview. When retiring from the grocery business he went to work for the City of Fairview in 1978 through 1994 retiring after 16 years of service. Upon retirement, he continued doing various odd jobs and helping others. He provided childcare for two great grandsons for the past 7 years.

He was a member of the Central Christian Church in Fairview and served as a Deacon. He served on the Auxiliary Police force in Fairview and was a member of the Fairview Wranglers Association.

Surviving are his two daughters Sharon Jantzen and husband Earnie and Darla Hays all of Ringwood, OK; Vonda Hamen of Ardmore, OK; Robert Hamen Jr. and wife Jan of Enid, OK; Terry Hamen and wife Donita of Fairview, OK; one brother Jesse Van "J.V." Peck of Ponca City, OK; one sister Caroline Sue Karbs and husband Ron of Okeene, OK. 10 Grandchildren: Brian Jantzen and wife Sarah; Amy Haffner and husband Brandon, all of Ringwood, OK; Heather Hood and husband Victor of Enid, OK; Shawn and Robert Nippert; Nikki and Kelly Brickman all of Okeene, OK. Zachary Hamen and wife Megumi; Katherine Ricks and husband Matt all of Enid, OK; Lance Button and wife Debra of Fairview, OK; Brandi Gann of Pawhuska, OK; Randalyn Litsch and husband Shane of Weatherford, OK; and 12 great grandchildren; one Aunt Louella Morgaridge of Enid, OK; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and four uncles.

In lieu of flowers the family request that memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or OMRF cancer division with the Fairview Funeral Home serving as custodian.
