Funeral Services for Alvin J. Nightingale, age 80, of Fairview, will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, February 7, 2008 at the Church of God In Christ Mennonite of Fairview. The Reverends Leonard Koehn, and Randy Levings will officiate. Burial will follow in the Cedar Cemetery east of Fairview. Arrangements are by Fairview Funeral Home, Inc.
Alvin was born July 4, 1927, in Homestead, Oklahoma, to Joseph A. and Sarah (Schmidt) Nightingale and died Monday, February 4, 2008, at Fairview Regional Medical Center in Fairview, Oklahoma.
Alvin was born in Homestead and attended school to the 8th grade. He married Vera (Penner) Nightingale on July 25, 1954 in Morris, Manitoba Canada. Alvin started a family dairy after he and Vera were married. They were blessed with five children and they all worked, helping with the dairy and farming. For a short while, Alvin worked for the railroad near Kingfisher. He was a member of the Church of God in Christ Mennonite and was a Sunday school teacher.
He is survived by his wife Vera of Fairview; three sons, Dayton of Fairview, Darwin and wife Sandra of Jay, Oklahoma, Rendel and wife Gayla of Okeene; two daughters, Beverly and husband Gilmer Toews of Hadashville, Manitoba Canada, Darla and husband Wilbert Koehn of Fairview; two brothers, Vernon of Fairview, Earl and wife Doloris of Isabella, Oklahoma; three sisters, Elda Nightingale of Fairview, Mildred and husband Gordon Penner of St. Mary's, Ontario Canada and Louise Penner of Fairview; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
His father and mother; two brothers and two sisters-in-law preceded Alvin in death.
Memorials may be made to the Humanitarian Service International with Fairview Funeral Home, Inc., acting as custodian.
