Funeral Services for Boyd Murrell Slaughter, age 84, will be held at 10:00 am, Monday, April 30, 2012, at the First United Methodist Church of Fairview. The Reverend Arnold Curby will officiate. Burial will be at 3:30 pm in the Chattanooga Cemetery, Chattanooga, Oklahoma. Arrangements are by Fairview Funeral Home, Inc.

Boyd was born March 19, 1928 to Murrell and Ruth (Ramsey) Slaughter on the family farm just outside of Chattanooga, Oklahoma. Boyd attended a small rural school until he graduated. Following graduation he went to work for a custom harvesting crew. He worked for the crew for the next two years, traveling from Texas to Canada as the wheat was ready to be cut.

On August 14, 1948 Boyd married Ruth Jacober in New Leipzig, North Dakota. They made their home in West Texas and remained there while Boyd worked in the oil and gas industry. In 1979 Boyd and Ruth moved to Fairview, Oklahoma. Ruth passed away in 1997.

Boyd love to fish and work in his garden but it seemed he had little time for hobbies because he was always working. However, he loved his grandchildren dearly and always made time to be with them. Boyd had many friends and enjoyed spending time playing cards and dominoes with them at the Senior Citizens Center He also enjoyed spending time with his close friend, Willadean Mollett. He will be greatly missed by many.

Boyd is survived by his son Doyle and wife Sherry, two daughters; Cindy Milam and husband Alvin and Carla Briant and husband Randy, nine grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, two brothers; Glen Slaughter and Robert Slaughter, and one sister Mary Alice Rowland.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Ruth, son Kenneth, sister Louise, brother Buddy and a grand-daughter Amber.

Memorials may be made to the Fairview Senior Citizens Center with the Fairview Funeral Home Inc. acting as custodian.
