Funeral Services for Carolyn Sue Cook, age 71, will be held at 1:30 pm, Saturday, April 4, 2009, at the Canton Christian Church of Canton, Oklahoma. The Reverend Steve Driskill will officiate. Burial will follow at the Munice Cemetery, west of Canton, Oklahoma. Arrangements are by Fairview Funeral Home, Inc.

View will be Thursdays, April 2 from 9 am to 5 pm and Friday, April 3, from 9 am to 4 pm at the funeral home and from 5 pm to 8 pm at the Christian Church at Canton, Oklahoma.

Carol was born in Woodward, Oklahoma to Garland and Lillie (Catlett) Shannon on January 30, 1938 and passed away April 1, 2009 at the Baptist Integris Hospital in Enid.

Carol was raised by her grandparents Ethel and Allen Catlett. She was born premature with other health conditions that her parents who traveled with the military could not raise her. Carol married Millard Cook May 23, 1953 in Woodward at the United Brethren Church. They moved to Seiling, Oklahoma where Carol worked at Brownie's Café as a waitress. Millard and Carol had their first child Melvin in 1953, soon after his birth they moved to Kansas due to work. After 2 years Carol got homesick for her family and they moved to Enid, Oklahoma. She worked as a waitress and they had their second child Patty in 1956.

Carol and her family then moved to Woodward and then in 1958 they had their third child Louise. In 1960 Carol started working at Western State Hospital in Fort Supply as a nurse's aid for 6 1/2 years. At that time Millard and Carol starting camping as vacation at Fort Supply Lake.

The family then moved to Watonga and Carol began to work at R.B.'s Café. Millard bought Carol her own family business, Longhorn Steak House, in Longdale. The whole family worked for the family business. After 4 years they sold the business and bought their first home and had their forth child Beckey in 1973.

Carol started cooking at the Longdale School and was there for 10 years. Carol and Millard bought their first motor home in 1982 and began traveling to Branson every chance they could. It was the love for people that was drawing Carol back to the medical field so she went and got her CNA license and worked at Fairview Hospital and Healthcare for 15 years.

Carol and Millard celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2003 in Longdale. In 2004 Carol was diagnosed with ovarian cancer so she had to retire from nursing. Millard and Carol then began their journey. She was in and of the hospital which caused then to stop their traveling. That was very hard for Carol for she loved to meet new friends, going to shows and not to forget going to the gift shops. They sold their home in Longdale and moved to Enid in 2007 due to her health. Carol loved her family.

She is survived by her husband of the home Millard Cook; one son Melvin Cook of Tennessee; three daughters, Patty and husband Frank Williams of Bethany, Louise and husband Rick Glaser of Elk City, and Becky Echols of Enid; one brother Wendell and wife Marie Shannon; one sister Ona Hall; 10 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren and her very special sister in law and friend Evelyn Cook, along with many other relatives and friends.

Carol was preceded in death by parents, Garland Shannon and Lillie Herr her grandmother, Ethel Mae Catlett, two brothers, Walther Herr and Johnny Herr.

Memorials may be made to Canton Christian Church with the funeral home acting as custodian.
