Cheryl Elaine Landes was born July 28, 1949 in Ulysses, Kansas to Calvin and Doris (Steen) Roberts and passed away May 19, 2020 in her home in Fairview, Oklahoma after her fight against cancer.
Cheryl grew up in Ulysses and then later her and her family moved to Okeene where she graduated from Okeene High School. Cheryl met Robert Eugene Landes and October 25, 1969 they were married in Okeene, Oklahoma. Bob attended Central State University in Edmond, majoring in funeral services and began working for an ambulance service and found his true calling in life. Luckily, Cheryl shared his interests and started training to be a paramedic and became and EMT in 1975. In 1978, they moved to Fairview, Oklahoma shortly after Major County voted in 522 District Emergency Medical Services. Bob and Cheryl were instrumental in setting up the new district. In the 1980s Cheryl also worked as a part time dispatcher and reserve police officer. While working there she won several shooting competitions. In 1991 Bob and Cheryl were named Honorable Mention and runners up for Oklahoma Emergency Medical Technician of the year. Bob was a heart transplant recipient in 1999 and not long after that, Cheryl went back to work for the Fairview Police Department as a dispatcher and after Bob's death in 2005, she went to work for the Major County Sherriff's office until she retired the first time only to return a short time later and finally retiring in December of 2019 due to her declining health.
She loved pets, dogs and cats and always had one or two. She truly enjoyed watching Hallmark Movies and playing computer games. Most of all she was a devoted mother to her son and grandmother to her granddaughters. She was loved by all who knew her and will be truly missed.
Cheryl is survived by her son Mark Landes, and granddaughters, Kylie, Kelsi and Kortney. She is also survived by her two brothers, Steve and Larry Roberts, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Calvin and Doris Roberts, brother Gary Roberts, and her husband Robert Eugene Landes.
