Funeral services for David R. Koehn, 59, will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 30, 2011, at the Fairview Mennonite Brethren Church. Burial will follow in the Cedar Cemetery. The Reverends Brad Penner and Gary Janzen will officiate. Arrangements are by Fairview Funeral Home Inc.

David was born November 28, 1951 to William J Koehn, Sr. and Leona (Dirks) Koehn in Newton, Kansas and peacefully slipped away to his Heavenly Home at 4:00 AM July 27, 2011, at the Okeene Municipal Hospital.

He went through 8th grade in Burns, Kansas and attended Peabody High School. Following school David went to work with his father on the family dairy. David was united in marriage to Lavada Penner on May 2, 1971 and they moved to Fairview, Oklahoma. They assumed management of Lavada's family dairy and moved it south of Fairview from Isabella. In April of 2001 he closed the dairy and for a short time worked for Garen Martens. David then worked for Major County District II and worked there until he passed away. He belonged to the Major County Farm Bureau.

When he was 13 yrs. old he gave his heart and life to Christ and was baptized in the Church of God In Christ Mennonite. Later he rededicated his life and joined the Fairview Mennonite Brethren where he immensely appreciated the caring love and fellowship he received from his church family. He enjoyed serving as a Greeter, on the Kitchen Committee, and as a Deacon. Reading his Bible and the Daily Bread daily was very important to him. While reading one evening in the hospital, God gave him a reassurance of his salvation, telling him "All is well with your Soul." He endured the discomfort, misery, pain, and disability of his cancer with amazing patience and never complained. When asked how he felt he'd say, "As good as can be expected." While doing treatment in Houston we celebrated our 40th Wedding Anniversary.

David enjoyed the simple things in life, and life itself. He enjoyed watching and riding trains. David liked spending time in the backyard tending his water garden, feeding the squirrels, birds, fish, and observing all kinds of wildlife. He was a lover of animals and enjoyed working with cattle and swathing and raking hay and loved the smell of newly swathed hay. Most of all he loved spending time at home surrounded by his family and grandchildren. No matter where we roamed he always loved 'going home'. We will miss his humor, his ability to speak the timely word that gently prompted us in the right direction. He often said, "It is better to remain silent and let them think you are a fool; then to speak and remove all doubt." He hated conflict and would endure or disappear rather than retaliate. He enjoyed the camaraderie of his boss and co-workers on the county crew. Arriving at events early and doing a job right was important to him. He took pride in grading roads. He had an unwavering love for his wife, children and grandchildren. He was a dedicated Christian, husband, father, grandfather, neighbor, friend, and co-worker.

He is survived by his wife, Lavada Koehn of Fairview; sons, David Lynn Koehn of Isabella, Fred Lee Penner and wife Carissa of Yukon, Daniel Ray Koehn and wife Kay Lynne of Fairview, and Jared Wayne Penner of Weatherford; daughter Marshalene Wimer and husband Bradley; two brothers, Earl Dean 'Gene' Koehn and wife Louise, and William Koehn, Jr. and wife Donna; one sister, Verna Becker and husband Galen; one sister-in-law Bertha Koehn, all of Burns, Kansas; and three grandchildren, Hunter, Hannah, and Winston; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Lucille Koehn and one brother, Marvin D. Koehn.

Memorials may be made to the Fairview Mennonite Brethren Church with Fairview Funeral Home, Inc., as custodian of the funds.
