Dorothy was raised in Fairview and graduated from Fairview High School with the Class of 1940. It was during her high school years she met Oscar Ellis. He said he fell in love with her the first time they met. Dorothy and Oscar married on November 3, 1940 in Fairview.

Dorothy and Oscar worked side by side after he returned from World War II. They worked in a number of enterprises, to include custom harvesting and road construction with Pool Construction. Dorothy and Oscar then went into the restaurant business. They owned the Dairy Queen in Del City from 1957 to 1967 and the Linda Jane Drive In in Shawnee. After they sold those businesses, they returned to the farm in Isabella and bought a restaurant in Fairview. They renamed it "Queen's Kitchen" and owned it from 1967 to 1978. They retired several times, in between retirements they operated a restaurant in Okeene and had their hands in several different businesses. Dorothy loved to sing and sang all the time. She loved her church and was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Fairview throughout her life. She had a strong faith in her Lord and wished to see all of her offspring know Jesus in a personal way so that one day they could be in Heaven with her and Oscar. She was a hard worker and instilled a hard work ethic in her children and grandchildren. Dorothy had a love of poetry and wrote many poems through the years.
