Funeral Services for Douglas "Doug" N. West, age 58, of Fairview, will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 25, 2010 at the Fairview Arts and Education building. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery. Bob Rowley and George Mayfield will officiate. Arrangements are by Fairview Funeral Home, Inc.

Viewing will be held 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Thursday and from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Doug was born September 19, 1952 in Urbana, Kansas to Alfred and Marjorie (Wallace) West and died September 21, 2010 at Integris Southwest Medical Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Doug grew up in Kansas and graduated from high school in Erie, Kansas in 1970. Following high school, he moved to Fairview, Oklahoma and worked for Waldon's, Delhi, Koch and Oneok. Doug married Ava O'Dell on February 12, 1972 in Fairview. They were blessed with four children.

Doug enjoyed hunting, fishing, mountain climbing and riding horses. He was a jack-of-all-trades; he could build, fix and make anything. Doug particularly enjoyed working with leather and made many items out of leather. He was an avid runner and ran many races. He participated in the Tulsa marathon and the relay at the Oklahoma Memorial Run. One of his great joys was cheering on his children at track meets and football games. Doug was a loving husband and father. His family and many friends will miss him greatly.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Ava, of the home; two daughters, Terri Swymeler and husband Gary of Harrah, Cindy Tomberlin and husband Josh of Alva; two sons, James West and wife Candice of Greenville, Texas, Curtis West, of the home; six grandsons, Isaac, Ben and Gabe Swymeler, Blaine and Bentley Tomberlin and Levi West; four sisters, Mary Shaffer and husband Tom of Ringwood, Judi Bell and husband Lawrence of Aline, Shirley Comer of Calumet, Deloris Sears and husband Ronnie of Erie, Kansas; four brothers, Ralph West and wife Judy of Bonner Springs, Kansas, Don West, Jack West and wife Leonda, all of Boonville, Missouri, Larry West of Green Springs, West Virginia and numerous nieces and nephews.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Pat West and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Major County Cancer Society with Fairview Funeral Home acting as custodian.
