Funeral services for Esther Schmidt, formerly of Moundridge, Kansas will be Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of God in Christ Mennonite Church, Fairview, OK, Reverends Randy Levings and Dale Koehn officiating. Arrangements by Fairview Funeral Home Inc.

Esther Schmidt was born April 23, 1934 near Walsh, Colorado to Jonas and Ida Boehs Schmidt. She peacefully passed away on March 29, 2013 at the Fairview Fellowship Home in Fairview, Oklahoma.

As a small girl she moved with her family to Fairview, Oklahoma where she spent her childhood years. She began her education at Standard School and later graduated from Progressive School. She was converted and baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite at Fairview on March 25, 1945 by Minister George Nichols. To those vows she remained faithful. As a young woman she spent time in Mexico. In 1959 she moved to Moundridge, Kansas and began a 43 year career at Mercy Hospital working in the housekeeping and laundry departments. During her years in Moundridge she had many friends and relatives she greatly appreciated and enjoyed spending time with them all. After her health began to fail she retired and early in 2010 she moved in with her sister at Ringwood, Oklahoma. In December, 2010 she moved into the Fairview Fellowship Home in Fairview where she resided till her death.

Esther had many interests in life besides her family and work. She loved flowers and gardening, made countless scrapbooks and potholders, and spent untold hours reading and singing. She loved traveling and made several trips to Europe and the Holy Lands as well as many places in the United States. Her brothers and sisters were very important to her along with her nieces, nephews, and many cousins. We miss her small gifts and the treasures she shared with us and her keen interest in our lives. Esther was a faithful, sincere Christian who loved her Lord and her Church with all her heart. We believe she has gone to her eternal home to be with her loved ones there.

Her survivors include one brother, Freeman and wife Janet of Fairview, Oklahoma; two sisters, Tena Leatherman of Walker, Missouri, and Louise and husband Jack Adkins of Ringwood, Oklahoma; one sister-in-law, Emma Schmidt of Fairview, Oklahoma; nineteen nieces and nephews with their spouses and children; and a host of cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother Herbert, one brother-in-law Herbert Leatherman, and one niece through marriage Trudy Schmidt.
