Funeral Services for Florence E. (Schwalk) Wichert, 96, of Wichita, Kansas formally of Fairview, will be 1:30 p.m., Friday, February 25, 2011 at the Fairview Mennonite Brethren Church. The Reverend Brad Penner will officiate. Burial will follow in the North Mennonite Brethren Cemetery. Arrangements are by the Fairview Funeral Home, Inc.

Viewing will be at the church prior to the service.

Florence E. (Schwalk) Wichert was born October 31, 1914 in Fairview to Jake and Anna Schwalk. Florence passed away February 21, 2011 at Andover Court in Andover, Kansas.

Florence grew up in Balko, OK and attended Balko and Enid High Schools. She attended Phillips University receiving a certificate in Business Administration.

On June 3, 1934, she married Carl C. Wichert in Balko Oklahoma. In 1994 the couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Carl passed away January 24, 1996.

The couple lived in the Fairview area and farmed while Carl taught school. Florence was involved in numerous church and community service activities. She served as superintendent of the Junior Sunday School Department, was chairman of the Women's Missionary Organization and was an active member of the Golden Rule Club.

Florence is survived by her daughter Joyce Franz and husband Richard of Wichita, Kansas., five grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Carl; her son Cheryl; 2 brothers and one sister.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Fairview Mennonite Brethren Church Youth Program with Fairview Funeral Home Inc. acting as custodian.
