Gail Marie Koehn's Obituary
Our special sister and favorite aunt, Gail Marie Koehn was born to Cornelius L. and Katherine (Kahn) Koehn on March 7, 1953 at Okeene, Oklahoma. She left us for her heavenly mansion on June 11, 2016 at St. Mary's Hospital, Enid, Oklahoma after a few months of illness.
She lived her life on the family farm a few miles southwest of Fairview. As a young girl the Lord called her and she gave her heart to him. She was baptized into the Church of God in Christ Mennonite on December 20, 1964 by Dan Smith.
She attended Progressive Grade School and Fairview High School for 12 years. After her school days she worked at a few various jobs until she found the one she loved. She worked as a nurse at the Fairview Hospital for 30 years until a serious vehicle accident ended that career. This accident left her with handicaps, she was told she would never walk again but with her upbeat attitude and determination, she did walk again. She even had a part time job at the Major County Economic Development in Fairview that she really enjoyed. She made many friends who were dear to her.
She was a true Oklahoma girl loving everything about Oklahoma. She was our dad's right hand, when all of us other siblings left home, milking cows and working in the fields.
Her home was always open to us, she loved us dearly and she was our sounding board many times, giving us advice and encouragement. She was the hub of our family, keeping us all close. She was a mother to her nieces and nephews, she loved them and they loved her, she spent many hours with them when they were young.
She loved to sing, now she is lending her beautiful alto to the heavenly choir. When she couldn't attend church she would listen by phone and would often comment, "I loved the singing."
In the last few months, we as her family began to notice that her accident was beginning to take a toll on her body and medical help was sought, but the Lord had other plans for her. She left us without any farewell words in the early morning hours.
We who will miss her the most are her 3 sisters, Lala Young, Marjorie Schmidt of Fairview, Fern and husband Galen Koehn of Hawkeye, IA; 3 brothers, Randy Koehn of Leland, MS, Jim Koehn and wife Arlyn of Fairview and Allen and wife Virginia of Yukon; 3 sister in laws, Shirlene Koehn of Murray, KY, Mary Ann Koehn of Fairview and Naomi Koehn of Broken Arrow and her 27 favorite nieces and nephews.
Those that she joins in her heavenly home are her parents, four brothers, one sister and two brothers-in-law.
