Memorial Services for Gary Lynn Shoemaker, 64, of Canton, will be 3:30 p.m., Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at the Fairview Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Dan O'Daniel will officiate. Arrangements are by Fairview Funeral Home, Inc.

Gary L. Shoemaker was born in Cleo Springs, September 13, 1946 to Carl and Mildred (Watkins) Shoemaker and passed away August 19, 2011 at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Gary graduated from Cleo Springs High School in 1964. In 1965, Gary was drafted into the United States Army and served in the European Theater during the Vietnam War and was honorable discharged at the rank of SPC 5 in December 1967.

He married Genevieve Kahn in 1968 and together they had two children; Gary Lynn Shoemaker II and Leah (Shoemaker) Murrah.
Gary was employed by Bond Baker until it went out of business. He worked various construction jobs, for Davidson Brothers Concrete and owned and operated a heating and air conditioning business for 25 years. Gary later married Sondra Custer in 1993. He also worked for Northwest Storm Shelter and Basement Company for several years.

Gary enjoyed his children and grandchildren very much. He also enjoyed gardening, raising watermelons, cantaloupe, onions and various other types of produce. Time spent antique hunting was very enjoyable for him and Sondra. Gary spent many hours constructing the log home in Cleo Springs where he and Sondra lived for eight years. They then moved to Canton where he was living at the time he passed away.

Gary leaves behind a host of family and friends, his wife Sondra (Custer) Shoemaker of the home in Canton, Oklahoma; his sons, Gary Lynn Shoemaker II and his wife Melissa of Fairview; Mervin Custer and wife Ronda of Woodward, Oklahoma. Daughter; Shari Moore and husband Howard of Helena, Oklahoma; six grandchildren, Johnathan Shoemaker, Jacey and Lindsey Custer, Tenessa Barker and husband Cody of Stillwater, Oklahoma, and Shannon and Leo Moore; one great-grandson, C.J. Barker; three brothers, Carl Shoemaker and wife Belva of Donna, TX; Don Shoemaker and wife Zeta of Fairview, Oklahoma, Roger Shoemaker of Iowa; four sisters, Helen DeBusk and husband Monte of Mesa, Arizona, Peggy Prochaska and husband Jimmy of Lahoma, Oklahoma; Sue Patterson of Enid, Ok and Annette Barrgree of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Gary is preceded in death by his parents, one daughter Leah (Shoemaker) Murrah and one sister Glenda.
