Funeral Services for Helen Marie St. John, age 89, will be held at 1:30 pm, Saturday, March 17, 2012, at the First United Methodist Church of Fairview. The Reverend Rachel Parrott will officiate. Burial will follow at the Fairview Cemetery west of Fairview. Arrangements are by Fairview Funeral Home, Inc.

Helen was born October 5, 1922 to William "Bill" and Anna Marie (Hurt) Dvorak on their farm in the Phroso School District of Major County, 25 miles west of Fairview, Ok and died March 14, 2012 at Fairview, OK.

Helen attended Phroso Grade School and was a member of the Ranger 4-H Club. Her 4-H record book was entered in the N.W. District 4-H record book contest and placed first which won her a free trip to the American Royal Livestock Show in Kansas City in 1940. Helen attended Fairview High School and roomed and boarded with three different families during her four years. She graduated in 1943. On June 1st, 1943 Helen married Morley St. John and they established their home in Oklahoma City until they returned to Fairview in 1983 upon Morley's retirement.

After World War II, Helen attended Hill's Business University in Oklahoma City. After graduating Helen was employed by Dr. S.R. Shaver, a former Fairview doctor, who was at that time an eye, ear, nose and throat specialist. She was his receptionist and bookkeeper.

In 1951 their first son, Donald was born and Helen stayed home to raise him. Later she worked part time for the Putnam City Methodist Church Pre-school as assistant teacher until the birth of their second son Daniel in 1957. When Daniel was old enough for pre-school the church persuaded Helen to return to teaching which she did. In 1963 she was assigned Lead Teacher at Putnam City United Methodist Church to a class of four year olds and continued in that position until the end of the 1979-80 school year when she retired.

The following year, 1981, Helen and Morley, with the help of Helen's brother Louis "Bud" Dvorak and his wife Pearl, started construction on their retirement home in Fairview on the St. John home place. They moved into the house in April of 1983.

Helen transferred her church membership to the United Methodist Church of Fairview where she also served as Sunday School Secretary for some time. She did volunteer work at the Fairview City Library on obituary files. Helen was awarded a plaque by the Fairview City Library honoring her for her years of hard work. Helen loved to volunteer at the Fairview Fellowship Home, spending time reading to the residents and playing music for the worship services there. She resigned from all volunteer work during the summer of 2003.

Helen was preceded in death by her beloved husband Morley, her parents and brother Bud and his wife Pearl.

Surviving Helen are: two sons, Donald Bruce and his wife Debbie St. John, Daniel Kent and his wife Dianne "Mickey" St John, five grandchildren and three great grandchildren all of Yukon, Oklahoma. She also leaves four nieces; Diane Jones, Donna Shuck, Delores Bensch, and Denise Laird and their respective families.

Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church of Fairview with the Fairview Funeral Home Inc acting as custodian.
