Helen Mae Unruh, 99, of Fairview, Oklahoma was born June 16, 1919 in Thomas, Oklahoma to Jesse L. and Ruth G. (Engle) Eyster. Helen went to her Heavenly home on November 22, 2018, surrounded by her loving family.
A Celebration of Life service is set for 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at the Fairview Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Ricky Chance and Reverend Chuck McKinney officiating. Cremation arrangements are by Fairview Funeral Home Inc.
Growing up on a dairy farm, Helen helped her father deliver milk and helped her mother around the house. She and her brother, LaVerne, had siblings to play with because their parents took in numerous foster children through the years Helen graduated from Thomas High School with the Class of 1936 and went to work for R.A. Young 5&10 in October of that year. She went to work for TG&Y where she worked her way to the manager position. Helen married Lawrence W. Unruh on January 29, 1956 in Clinton, Oklahoma. They raised three children together, Judy, Cheryl and Jeffrey. The couple enjoyed 53 years of marriage before Lawrence passed away in 2009.
Helen was a fantastic cook and enjoyed preparing wonderful meals for her family. Time around her table held so much love and laughter for the entire family. Helen accepted Christ at a young age. She was a member of the Fairview Church of the Nazarene where she served many years as Sunday School Teacher, steward and board secretary.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, Lawrence and brother, LaVerne.
Left to cherish her memory are her children; Judy and Robert Koehn, Cheryl and Phillip Thompson and Jeffrey and Karla Unruh, all of Fairview, four grandchildren, five great grandchildren, sister in law, Wilma Eyster and nieces, nephews and friends.
Memorials may be made to the Fairview Church of the Nazarene with the funeral home acting as custodian of the funds.
