Funeral Services for Henry Pete Nickel, 70, of Cleo Springs, will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, November 2, 2009 at the Cleo Springs Christian Church. The Reverend Leonard Vogt will officiate. Burial will follow in Cleo Spring Cemetery. Arrangements are by the Fairview Funeral Home, Inc.

Viewing will be from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Thursday, October 29 and from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 Sunday at the Fairview Funeral Home Inc.

Henry Pete Nickel was born June 12, 1939 in Center, Colorado to Bennie and Anna (Plummer) Nickel and passed away October 28, 2009 at the Fairview Fellowship Home in Fairview, Oklahoma.

Henry was born in Center, Colorado, then as a small child his family moved to Cleo Springs, Oklahoma. While in high school, he played basketball and baseball and graduated from Cleo Springs High School in 1957. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served during the Korean War. On December 26, 1959, he married LaVerda Srader in Texas. Shortly after the wedding, he was transferred to Goosebay Labridor Air Station. In 1961, he was transferred stateside and received an honorable discharge.

After returning home, Henry lived in Cleo springs and soon began working as a mechanic in the oil industry. He was employed at the Aline Gas Plant for almost 20 years. On May 12, 1999 Henry married Evie Durham in Enid, Oklahoma. He also worked 15 years at Ringwood Gathering where he retired from in 2004.

Henry loved life. Every Wednesday he would get together with his friends and play poker. Henry was a member of the Cleo Springs Poker Club. He also enjoyed fishing, boating, and watching pro wrestling on television. Henry spent his spare time metal detecting and coin collecting. He loved bowling with his family and friends.

Henry is survived by his son, Doug Nickel of Enid; daughter Debbie Howerton and husband Scott of Cleo Springs; five step-children; brother Willard Nickel and wife Pat of Newport, North Carolina; four grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Henry was preceded in death by his parents and son Denny.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion or to the Shriners with Fairview Funeral Home Inc. acting as custodian.
