Ida (Penner) Neufeld of Fairview, OK, died October 15, 2017, at Fairview Regional Hospital after a struggle with several concurrent health problems. She was 80. Ida will be remembered for her gift of hospitality, her organizational ability, her contributions to church life, and her compassion for others.

Ida was one of ten siblings and the first daughter of Dietrich and Martha (Harder) Penner who preceded her in death. Ida is survived by her husband, Dr. Orville Neufeld; her sons, Phil (Joyce) Neufeld and Chuck (Judi) Neufeld; her grandchildren, Corina (Darren) Enns, Andy Neufeld, Bryan (Keiko) Neufeld, Kirsten Neufeld, and Lauren (Nick) Ediger; her siblings, Melvin (Norma Jean) Penner, Frank (Ruth) Penner, Clara Trammel, Norma Koski, Marilyn (Ken) Schroeder, Don (Linda) Penner, Dorothy (Ron) Payne, Jim (Diana) Penner, and Edie (Brian) Radtke; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Ida was born March 27, 1937, in Bessie, OK. When she was six, the Penner family moved to a farm west of Weatherford, OK. Later they moved to another house on the north side of U.S. Highway 66 just outside of Weatherford. During her childhood Ida attended Gyp Hill School and Weatherford Junior High School.

After graduating from Corn Bible Academy, Corn, OK, in 1955, she moved to Weatherford, OK. Following her marriage to Orville Neufeld, May 28, 1957, the couple lived in Fairview, Weatherford, and Oklahoma City. Their first child, Phil, was born September 28, 1958 in Clinton, OK. Their second child, Chuck, was born April 30, 1962, in Oklahoma City, OK. While in Oklahoma City Ida and Orville helped establish the Bethany Mennonite Brethren Church.

Subsequent school and employment opportunities took Ida's young family to Little Rock, AR, Walnut Creek, CA, Shawnee Mission, KS, and Olathe, KS. Ida was a full-time homemaker and part-time student at Little Rock College. While in Olathe, Ida attended Mid-America Nazarene College, then served as the secretary for Stanley Elementary School, Stanley, KS. Ida and Orville were also heavily involved in the fledgling Community Bible Church in Olathe.

In 1974, the family moved to Fairview, OK, where Ida was the office manager for Orville's medical practice and actively involved in the lives of "her boys." She and Orville served together in the Fairview Mennonite Brethren Church as deacons and as youth sponsors for twelve years. Ida also enjoyed teaching Sunday School. Together Ida and Orville worked to advance the Southern District Conference of Mennonite Brethren Churches and the United States Mennonite Brethren Conference. Ida was a gifted hostess who enjoyed entertaining visitors of all kinds in her home for informal meetings, for meals, and for overnight stays.

From 1991-2016, Ida and Orville lived in Monument, CO. They initially joined Garden Park Mennonite Brethren church of Denver and, when the travel proved too much to maintain an active membership, became members of the First Presbyterian Church in Colorado Springs, CO. Ida was active in Bible Study Fellowship and served as chair of the regional Christian Women's Club. She continued to host many friends in her home who traveled through the Colorado Springs area.

Ida endured several debilitating strokes during her lifetime and was known for maintaining a positive spirit during the course of her rehabilitation. Even with limited mobility and speech in her final three years, she continued to smile and love everyone with whom she interacted. Ida and Orville returned to Fairview in January, 2017. Despite her declining health, Ida was re-energized by visits from family and friends in her new Fairview home.

Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 pm, Friday, October 20, 2017, at the Fairview Funeral Home, 221 North Main St., Fairview, OK. A celebration of Ida's life will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, October 21, 2017, at the Fairview Mennonite Brethren Church, 1600 East State Rd, Fairview, OK. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Tabor College Department of Music, Hillsboro, KS.
