Funeral services for Jake E Schmidt, 84, of Fairview, will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, January 14, 2016, at the Church of God in Christ Mennonite, with the Deacons Wayne Unruh and Clark Boehs officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Cemetery under the direction of the Fairview Funeral Home Inc.
Jake was born in Cimarron, Kansas to Emos T Schmidt and Cora (Nightengale) Schmidt and passed away Saturday, January 9, 2016 at Fairview Fellowship Home, Fairview, Oklahoma.
Jake grew up and attended school in Kansas and Oklahoma until 6 th grade. Jake worked as a heavy equipment operator and worked for many different companies. While living in Ringwood area he worked for Lee Jays and built many of the oil locations in Major County.
As a younger man with his son Ronnie he went to Montana Gold mining and he was given a mine. They mined together for several years. Jake was very adventurous, he mined in Montana, picked oranges in Georgia and peaches in California. He also picked sweet potatoes and watermelon. He lived life to the fullest.
He is survived by his son Ronnie Schmidt of Isabella; two daughters, Brenda and husband Alvin Munger of Kinsley, Kansas and Geneva Wilson of Reno, Nevada; 5 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; two brothers, Lee Roy and wife Agnes Schmidt of Paris, Texas and Lincoln Schmidt of Broomfield, Iowa; two sisters, Mabel Trammell of Scio, Oregon and Lorena McClain of Fairview, Oklahoma.
Jake was preceded in death by his parents and several brothers and sisters.
Memorials may be made to OMRF Cancer Division or Gospel Tract at the Church God in Christ Mennonite with Fairview Funeral Home acting as custodian.
