James Jerald Jones' Obituary
Funeral services for James Jerald Jones, 74, of Watonga will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, September 10, 2012 at the Trinity Baptist Church of Watonga. Burial will follow in the IOOF Cemetery, east of Watonga Arrangements are by Fairview Funeral Home, Inc.
James Jerald Jones was born December 24, 1937 in Okeene, Oklahoma to Ivy A. Jones and Violet J. (Sawyer) Jones and passed from this life on September 4, 2012 in Oklahoma City after his short battle with congestive heart failure. He was raised at Southard, Oklahoma where he graduated from high school in 1957. Following high school, James attended SWOSU where he received a degree in Industrial Arts. After graduation he started teaching school at Tyrone, Oklahoma and many years in Okeene, Oklahoma. While he was working as a teacher, he continued his education and later received a masters' degree in guidance and counseling. He did not stop there, he was nearing his completion of his PHD.
James and Donna Schlotthauer Laubach were married in 1959 in Enid, Oklahoma, the couple later divorced. To this union was born daughter Jarilyn J. Jones Wichert.
James retired in the early 1980s after more than 20 years. James was an avid outdoorsman enjoying farming and ranching and traveling all over with Sherry. He raised performance horses for racing and rodeos. He loved to watch his horses perform with his close friends. He also loved hunting and fishing, dancing and concerts and was outstanding at playing the piano. James loved music and having fun. After his mother died he no longer played the piano. James passed from this life on September 4, 2012 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Survivors are lifelong companion and partner Sherry Hanson of the home; daughter Jarilyn Wichert and husband Rodney of Pampa, Texas; grandchildren Whitney Wichert of Bryan, Texas, Jacob and Keeley Wichert and Bailey Wichert of Pampa, Texas, and a cousin Joy Phillips of Watonga and numerous extended family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his grandparents Riley and Kate Sawyer who he was very close to.
Memorials may be given to the OMRF Cancer or Heart divisions with the Fairview Funeral Home acting as custodian.
