Obituary

Funeral Services for Jerry Duane Guffey, 58, of Lahoma, will be 1:30 p.m., Friday, September 25, 2009 at the First Missionary Baptist Church in Enid, Oklahoma. Pastor Alfred Baldwin will officiate. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery. Arrangements are by the Fairview Funeral Home, Inc.

Viewing will be from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Wednesday; from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Fairview Funeral Home Inc. and at the church prior to the service on Friday.

Jerry Duane Guffey was born May 26, 1951 in Enid, Oklahoma to Leslie L. Guffey and Peggy L. (Brown) Guffey and passed away September 20, 2009 at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center.

Jerry grew up in Booker, Texas and graduated from high school in 1970. While in school, he played football and track. He was also active in FFA and showed steers. After high school, he attended Texas A & M. In 1974, Jerry joined the United States Navy. He served on the USS Casimir Pulaske as a nuclear power plant operator. Jerry received an honorary discharge on August 11, 1977. After his service, he returned to Fairview and worked at Al's AML Grocery Store. He also worked for Major County EMS and served as an auxiliary police officer for the city of Fairview. In 1978, Jerry went to work for the City of Fairview and became an electric supervisor. On August 14, 1981, he married Carol Ann (Farrand) Standifer in Dallas, Texas. He retired from the City of Fairview in 1997. Jerry was a member of the American Legion and VFW. He loved woodworking, fishing, camping and watching college football. He was an Oklahoma State University fan, tried and true. Jerry enjoyed watching the Food Channel on TV. However, most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren. He also loved playing Santa Claus for years.

He is survived by wife Carol Ann Guffey of Lahoma, Oklahoma; seven daughters, Cassandra L McConnell and husband Lonnie of Mooreland, Oklahoma, Patricia Kincheloe and husband Victor of Vian, Oklahoma, Bonnie Guffey, April Guffey, Kimberly D. Haley and husband Chris, all of Enid, Tammy Walborn and husband Bret of Cherokee, Oklahoma and Bree Guffey of Lahoma, three sons, Jerry D. Guffey II and wife Daleene, Archie Ray Farrand and wife Connie, all of Cleo Springs, Oklahoma and Brandon Ray Guffey of Scott Air Force Base, Illinois; one brother, Larry Guffey and wife Patricia of Longdale, Oklahoma; 23 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one grandson, Domnic Guffey.
