Funeral services for Joe C. Houk, 93, of Fairview, will be 10:00 AM, Saturday, November 12, 2022, at the 1 ^st United Methodist Church, Fairview, Oklahoma. Burial will follow the service at the Fairview Cemetery.  Arrangements by Fairview Funeral Home Inc.

Joe C. Houk was born in Enid, OK on December 28, 1928, to J. Dawson Houk and Elsie (Headlee) Houk. He went to be with Jesus on November 8 ^th , 2022.   He attended grades 1 and 2 in Enid and grades 3 through 12 in Fairview, graduating from Fairview High School in 1947.  He played in the high school band, played on the 1946 state championship football team, and played basketball.  He attended the University of Oklahoma from 1948 to 1951 where he was a member of the Pride of Oklahoma marching band and received his B.A. degree.

In 1951, he entered the Army as a lieutenant and served overseas in the Army Artillery from 1951 to 1953.  He continued in the Army Reserve from 1953 until 1966.  He was promoted to First Lieutenant in 1953 and then Captain in 1958.

He then graduated from the University of Oklahoma College of Law with a LLB in 1955.  He practiced with his father, J. Dawson Houk, until his father's retirement.  He continued his law practice with Vince Barefoot, Jason Hasty, Scott Church, and his son Joey.  He served as an Attorney for the City of Fairview for 49 years, the Fairview School System, and the citizens of Fairview for 67 years.

He enjoyed sports and refereed football and basketball games with close friends Charlie Williams, Pat Hallren and Jim Slater.  He also enjoyed his time as a private pilot owning several aircraft. One of his greatest joys was the family cabin in Colorado and fly fishing. He loved feeding and watching his cattle. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.

He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, the Fairview Lions, lifetime member of the VFW Post 6141 and the American Legion Post 51, Chamber of Commerce, and the Masonic Lodge.  He participated in many fundraising projects for the Fairview school system and the Major County community.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, his sister Eleanor (Houk) Wesner and brother-in-law Ron Wesner; and brother Paul Houk.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn of 53 years; son Tom Pearson and spouse Cynthia; daughter Dorothy "Dottie" Pearson; son Joe and spouse Kimberly; daughter Sarah Elizabeth Young and spouse Ben; daughter Carrie McCray and spouse Chuck; grandchildren: Connor Pearson and his wife Joella; Madison Pearson; Drew, Austin, and Alex Houk; Rachel, Anna, Zoe, and Mia Young; and Rylee, Ellie, and Ty McCray.

Memorial donations may be made to the Fairview Masonic Lodge or the Fairview 1 ^st United Methodist Church with Fairview Funeral Home, Inc. serving as custodian of the funds.
