Obituary

Funeral Services for Joe L. Schwind, age 75 will be Friday, July 19 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church with the Reverend Rich Redinger officiating. Burial will follow in the Ames Cemetery. Arrangements are by Fairview Funeral Home, Inc.

Joe was born May 22, 1938, in Ringwood, Oklahoma to Lawrence and Irene (Reed) Schwind and died July 15, 2013, at Integris Bass Baptist in Enid, Oklahoma.

Joe attended grade school at the Cimarron Valley School and graduated from Ames High School with the class of 1956. Joe served in the 95th Division of the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1977 when he retired after serving 20 years with the U.S. Army Reserves. Joe married Marita Swart August 8, 1959 at the Ames Methodist Church. They celebrated 53 years together. To this union were born a son Jim and a daughters Lori and Kelly.

Joe owned and operated the NAPA Auto Parts Store in Fairview, Oklahoma from 1978 to 2004. His customers were not just customers, they were his friends and meant so much to him. He served on the board of the Major County Health Dept., was a member of the Lions Club, Methodist Men's, Fairview Chamber of Commerce and served as a youth Sunday school teacher. Joe was also a member of the Rotary Club, he was on the church building committee for the new Methodist Church and he was on the city zoning board for a number of years. He loved all kinds of sports and square dancing and was a member and district president of the Square Dance club.

He is survived by his wife Marita of the home, son Jim and Kim Schwind and children Cassidy and Kalley, daughter Lori and Larry Brickman and children Blake and Ashley and host of relatives and friends.

Joe was preceded in death by daughter, Kelly Sue, his parents, brothers, Delbert and Gerald Schwind.

Memorials may be made through the Fairview Funeral Home to the Fairview First United Methodist Church.
