Graveside services for Joy Belle Koehn, 87, of Ringwood, will be held at 1:30 p.m., Monday, April 20, 2020 in the Cedar Cemetery.  Due to the current restrictions, only the immediate family will be present.  A memorial service will be held after this crisis is over.  Arrangements are by Fairview Funeral Home Inc. Visitation will be held Sunday, April 19, 2020 at the funeral home from 1 to 6 pm.  Everyone is welcomed, however, we will limit the number of people to 10 at a time and observe social distances.

Joy Belle (Penner) Koehn left this earth for her eternal home in Heaven on April 17, 2020 at the Fairview Hospital.  Joy was born on January 11, 1933 in Isabella, OK to Eli and Edna (Becker) Penner.  The oldest of four children Joy lived all her childhood in Isabella just up the hill from the school.

She attended grade school in Isabella, OK and graduated in 1951 from Fairview, OK where she attended high school. After graduation she moved to Enid, OK where she attended business collage and later worked for Edward Montgomery in his law office.

On July 19, 1952 Joy married the love of her life, Leonard Koehn, at the Methodist church in Enid, OK  Leonard would tell the story that it cost seven dollars and that was all the cash he had.  The first years of their marriage they worked in various places and in 1959 they moved to Ringwood where they would spend the rest of their lives.  Joy and Leonard were blessed with two children, Leon born in 1953 and Kara Lee born in 1956.  Leonard and Joy were happily married 63 years until Leonard's passing in August of 2015.

Before her health began to fail Joy had many hobbies.  A hobby Joy inherited from her mom was quilting.  She was taught by her mother and her friends in a quilting group that continued for many years and brought forth many beautiful quilts.  Joy was a very good bowler and had many stories to tell involving the lifetime friends she made while bowling on the leagues.  She was an excellent pie baker and would bake pies and bring them to the Engine Shows her family was participating in.  She would not bring just one pie she brought three or four pies all different flavors.  When her family's show friends found out Joy was bringing pies they were sure to visit just at the right time to have a piece.  Joy was also an avid gardener and loved growing flowers of all kinds. Crocheting was also another of Joy's talents. She could crochet Afghans, dish cloths and everything in between but we do not think anyone could beat her at collecting recipes and cook books.  Joy absolutely loved cookbooks!  She was especially enthusiastic while researching the history of the Penner and Koehn Families.

Joy's grandkids, Ryan and Eric were very special to her and when her great grandkids came along, Twins Eli, named after Joy's dad, Noah and Nathaniel, whom she called little squirt, she was one very proud great- grandma.

Because they were so close the family began eating Sunday breakfast at Leon and Sherry's home. Sherry would cook the bacon and Joy would bake French toast or pancakes or any new recipe she could find. Sometimes she would spend the whole week looking thru recipes for just the right one to fix for Sunday breakfast.  Joy was loved by her family and friends and will be truly missed by all who knew her.

Left to morn Joy's passing are sister, Velda Truitt, Fairview, OK, sister in-law's Donna Penner, Dodge City, KS., Juanita Koehn, Okeene OK., Elsie Koehn, Ringwood, OK., and Rosetta Schmidt, Livingston, CA., Mary Helen Koehn, Tulsa, OK., daughter Kara Harrell and husband Dennis, Tulsa OK., daughter in-law Sherry Koehn, Ringwood, OK., grandsons Ryan, Eric and his wife Denae', great grand-sons Eli, Noah, and Nathaniel all of Ringwood, OK..  Joys loved her beloved babies, dog KOKO, felines Snickers, Sassy, Cookie and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Eli and Edna, husband Leonard, brother Kenny, sister Joann and son Leon.

In lieu of flowers memorials in Joy's name can be made to the Fairview Alumni in care of Fairview Funeral Home.
