Funeral Services for Joyce "Collene" Thompson, 84, will be 3:00 p.m., Saturday, November 7, 2015, at the Central Christian Church in Fairview, Oklahoma. The Reverend Orville White will officiate. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery. Arrangements are by Fairview Funeral Home, Inc.
Collene Thompson was born February 2, 1931, on the home place south of Midway Church, to John "Earl" and "Lula" Mae (Reed) Custer and passed away on November 4, 2015, in Fairview, Oklahoma.
Collene attended the little country schools of Sternberg and Tivola, west of Fairview, and high school at Longdale, OK. She met Lenard through her brother and his best friend, Reed. They married on July 17, 1949, and celebrated 66 years of marriage this year. Collene was a devoted wife and mother to their four children. When the kids were older, she worked part time jobs at Flowers Etc. and cooked weekly luncheons for the Lion's and Rotary Clubs. She was a member of the Willing Workers Home Extension Club and Busy Bees Club. She was a member of Midway Assembly of God and began attending Sunday school as a very young child. She was active in the women's ministries and took many children to vacation Bible school every summer where she always worked with the arts and crafts. She made sure her children were active in 4-H and made sure her three girls could cook and sew.
Collene is survived by her devoted husband Lenard, daughters: Reda and Gary Jones, LaDonna and Jack Gibson all of Tuttle, OK, and Brenda and Michael Reardon of Blanchard, OK, seven grandchildren and four with one on the way, great- grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins who will miss her greatly.
Preceding her in death were her parents, a son, Lenard Keith, as well as three brothers and four sisters.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association through the funeral home.
