Cleo Springs

Obituary

A Memorial Service for Kelly Gene Nightengale, 64, of Cleo Springs, will be held at 10 am, Thursday, May 13, 2021 at the funeral home chapel, Fairview, Oklahoma.  Kelly was killed in a motorcycle accident in the early morning hours on Friday, May, 7, 2021.  Arrangements by Fairview Funeral Home, Inc.

Kelly was born on January 31, 1957 in Claremore, Oklahoma to John J. and Carol Anne (Robbins) Nightengale, the fourth of six children.  Kelly and his siblings traveled the western united states while their Dad John did construction dirt work until finally moving to Cleo Springs where they made their home.

Kelly began dating Laurie S. Hamen in January of 1976 and on May 5, 1979 they married.  Later that year the center of their universe, Brandon Gene arrived.  Two years later a daughter Kelly Sue was stillborn.

Kelly left school and began working at 15.  He worked in the oil field and pipeline in Oklahoma until 1989.  Much of the time was spent working with his Dad and brothers.  In 1989 – 1990 he spent a year working in the gold mines of Nevada.  From 1990 till present day, Kelly traveled the USA doing pipeline construction work.  He loved doing mountain work, the bigger the challenge the better.  His dozer or Blade work filled him with pride.

Kelly loved fast cars, motorcycles, and boats, and enjoyed the old muscle car.  His love of music included all genres.  Fishing, hunting or water skiing was things he enjoyed also.

Kelly never met a stranger and talked to everyone.  He enjoyed sharing stories with all, most of all his love for his son, whom he considered his best friend.  Our daughter-in-law, Rachel and grandkids were his #1 priority.  He liked nothing better than spending time with the kids.  He and Laurie were inseparable and he recently said "I Love You so much I couldn't survive without you".

Surviving him is his wife Laurie, son Brandon and wife Rachel, grandchildren Wesley, Katelyn, and Gracelyn.  Sister Lolly Rich, Brothers, Johnny, Leslie and wife Sue Nightengale, Mother and father-in-law Betty and Jim Veal, two sisters-in-law, Angela Sloan and Cynthia and husband Richard Schmidt, and numerus nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Kelly was preceded in death by daughter Kelly Sue, parents John and Carol, sister Sandra, and brother Wayne, niece Desi, father-in-law Richard and numerous other relatives and friends.
