Memorial Service for LaDona Jean Bryant - Akers, 83, of Fairview, Oklahoma, will be at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, April 23, 2022 at the Fairview First Baptist Church. Reverend Derek Cox officiating. Arrangements are by Fairview Funeral Home, Inc.
Jean was born on November 21, 1938 at home in Fairview Oklahoma to Czar Libby and Lorene Jett Libby. Her family lived in the basement of the Major County Court House while her dad was the Sheriff of Major County.
One of her earliest jobs was working at the Chicken Factory plucking chickens that left a lasting impression on her. Jean graduated from Fairview High School in 1956
Jean married Albert "Clayton" Bryant in 1956 in Fairview. In 1966 she become a Fire Fighter Wife where she and many others made sure the Fire Fighters had food and drink the entire time they were out on calls, along with helping perfect the "Stew" that is still being used today at the Fire Fighters Annual Chili and Stew Super.
She worked at Waldon's for many years and even was one of the first to attend classes with IBM Computers in Dallas for bringing the company into the Technology scene. Once she left Waldon's she went to work for Lone Peak as a Safety Manager for several years, and then started her journey working for the Fairview Public School system where she finally retired to do what she really enjoyed. There was not a garage sale, Antique Store, Thrift Store that she didn't stop to browse and possibly bring home a treasure. She loved all creatures…they had many well loved pets and would feed the wildlife just to enjoy watching them.
After retirement Clayton and Jean joined the Oklahoma Baptist Disaster Relief. They loved helping where and whenever they could. After the passing of Clayton she continued with the Organization for several years until she was physically unable to continue.
Clayton and Jean were founding members of the Riding for Him Cowboy Church in Nescatunga, OK.
Jean remarried in 2011 to Herbert Gene Akers of Enid, Oklahoma. They originally lived in Jett Oklahoma and then moved to Enid 2015.
Jean is survived by her children Rodger Bryant and wife Alethea of Fairview, Oklahoma and Cindy Bryant of S. Pasanda, Florida. Grandchildren, Andrew Schellman of Florida, Casey and wife Savannah Bryant of Kilgore, TX, Ciarra and husband Tim Faulker, Braedon and husband Chance Voth of Fairview, OK, Bailey Bryant of Anadarko, OK, Garrett, Zoey, Abbigail and Alyanna Bryant of Fairview, OK. Great grandchildren, Jaxtyn, Harper, Sidney and Tate.
Jean is proceeded in death by her parents; her 3 brothers (Thomas, Jack and Max). Husband Clayton Bryant and Gene Akers.
In Lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to Traditions Hospice with Fairview Funeral Home, Inc acting as custodians of the funds.
