Lauretta Kathrene Eitzen's Obituary
Burial for Lauretta Kathrene Eitzen, 85, of Fairview will be in the South Mennonite Brethren Cemetery at 10 am Wednesday, December 7, 2011 followed by a Celebration of Life at 11 am, in the Fairview Mennonite Brethren Church. The Reverends James Suderman and Travis Schmidt will officiate. . Arrangements are by the Fairview Funeral Home, Inc.
Lauretta Kathrene Eitzen was born on August 7, 1926 to Henry A. and Maria (Wall) Martens in Buhler, KS. She passed from this earth to heaven on December 4, 2011 at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center in Enid, OK.
Lauretta graduated from Buhler High School in 1944, then went on to Tabor College where she met the love of her life, Wesley R. Eitzen. Wes and Lauretta were married on May 28, 1948. They spent the first 4 years of their lives in Buhler, then in 1952, they took a big step of faith and moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana. Here, Lauretta became more involved with her church work and involvement with Child Evangelism Fellowship (CEF). In 1962, the family moved back "home" to Fairview, OK.
As she herself accepted the Lord as her personal savior at the age of 12, Lauretta continually had a heart for children. She continued her ministry with CEF teaching Bible stories to children, as well as working as a Sunday School teacher and Children's Choir Director for over 20 years. As a soprano, she was a member of the Fairview Mennonite Brethren Choir for almost 50 years. She was also an Avon Representative for 49 years and had won numerous sales awards and she was an office assistant for her husband for 48 years. While her passion was her music, she also enjoyed embroidery, canning fresh vegetables and fruits, reading, and entertaining guests – she rarely said no to offering her home for a weary guest. She specifically enjoyed all of the wonderful flowers that Wes would grow and bring in from his garden.
Lauretta is survived by her husband Wes Eitzen; sons Leland Eitzen and wife Naomi; and Philip Eitzen and wife Tamara, both of Fairview; 8 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson.
Preceding her in death were her parents, sisters Estella Franz, Velma Medsker, and brother Otto Martens; and her in-laws, A. B. and Rubena Eitzen.
