Lawrence Unruh's Obituary
Memorial Services for Lawrence Unruh, 92, of Fairview, will be 1:30 p.m., Thursday, March 5, 2009 at the Fairview First Church of the Nazarene. Reverend Chuck McKinney will officiate. Arrangements are by Fairview Funeral Home, Inc.
There will be no viewing but friends may sign the register book at Fairview Funeral Home, Inc.
Lawrence was born October 28, 1916 to Henry A. and Eva (Schmidt) Unruh in Montezuma, Kansas and passed away March 2, 2009 at his home in Fairview, Oklahoma.
When Lawrence was two years of age, his family moved to Tampa, Kansas where he attended Belle Top School for eight years. At the age of 14 he accepted Christ as his savior and was a faithful servant for 78 years. He also attended Freeman South Dakota Bible School for two years. In 1941 they moved to California where he worked in a dairy.
On April 16, 1944 he married Gertrude Decker and had two girls, Judy Carol and Cheryl Jeanette. Gertrude passed away in August, 1954.
On January 29, 1956 Lawrence married Helen Eyster at Clinton, Okla. Lawrence and Helen had one son Jeffrey Gayle Unruh.
Lawrence farmed and worked for Conoco and Phillips 66 wholesale delivery trucks until 1961. He was a custodian at the Chamberlain Middle School until he retired.
Lawrence was an active member of the Nazarene Church where he was the song leader for 40 years, Sunday school teacher, Sunday school Superintendent and church board member. Lawrence enjoyed carpentry and helped build the church and parsonage.
In his later years he did lawn mowing and raised a garden. Lawrence read the Bible thru 5 times in 6 months since he became ill.
He is survived by wife Helen, of the home; two daughters, Judy Koehn and husband Robert, Cheryl Thompson and husband Phillip; one son, Jeffrey Unruh and wife Karla, all of Fairview; two brothers, Leslie Unruh and wife Trudy of Upland, California and Oliver Unruh and wife Frances of Hillsboro, Kansas; 4 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Gertrude and three sisters.
