Leo Harms' Obituary
Funeral Services for Leo Harms, will be Tuesday September 6, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at the Fairview Funeral Home Chapel, Fairview, OK. Reverend Leonard Koehn will officiate. Burial will follow in the Cedar Cemetery. Arrangements by the Fairview Funeral Home, Inc.
Visitation will be Monday, September 5, 2011 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.at the Fairview Funeral Home and before the service at the cemetery.
Leo was born March 2, 1919 at home on the family farm near Norwich, KS to George and Susie (Koehn) Harms and passed away September 1, 2011 at his home near Cleo Springs, OK. He grew up in Kansas but also lived in the Longdale and Cedar Springs areas. He was drafted from Major County into the Army Air Corps on May 21, 1942 during World War II. He was stationed in Australia, New Guinea, and the Philippines. Leo was an aircraft mechanic and worked on P-51s and numerous other aircraft. He was honorably discharged on December 7, 1945 and returned to Garden City, KS. In 1946 he married Lena May Bone in Deerfield, KS. Leo worked for an air station in Garden City until the base there closed. He then went to work for Jones Brothers Irrigation Service as a mechanic. Leo also worked as a mechanic at the local Kaiser dealership. In 1951 Leo and Lena moved to their Cleo Springs farm where they lived until his death. Most of his life he was a dairy farmer. Leo also worked at Vance Air Force Base in Enid, OK from 1954 to 1965 and ran a dairy for 30 years. He enjoyed genealogy and searching for treasure with his metal detector. He was a member of the American Legion and the VFW.
Leo is survived by his wife Lena of the home; son, Larry Harms and wife SzeYing of Ringwood, OK; two daughters Linda Petty and husband Dan of Enid, Ok and Lynette Khaladj and husband Hossein also of Enid, OK; son-in-law Leonard Morris of Fairview, OK.; eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents , one daughter, LaDonna Morris, three half-brothers and three half-sisters.
Memorials may be made to OMRF Heart or Cancer divisions with the funeral home acting as custodian.
