Memorial services for Lorena Ann McClain, age 85, will be held at 10:30 am, Thursday, June 21, 2018 at the Isabella Nazarene Church. The Reverends Nathan Twyman and Mahlon Richardson will officiate. Arrangements are by Fairview Funeral Home, Inc.

Lorena Ann was born September 18, 1932 in Cimarron, Kansas to Emas T and Cora (Nightingale) Schmidt and passed away peacefully at her home on June 14, 2018.

Lorena married Clarence "Mac" McClain on May 10, 1952 in Huron South Dakota. They lived in several locations due to his military service. Lorena wanted to be close to family in retirement, surprising us all they arrived in Isabella Oklahoma the fall of 1977. They enjoyed 35 years living in the Isabella community. After Mac's passing in the spring of 2012, Lorena moved to her apartment in Fairview.

Lorena loved adventure, traveling, and learning new things. In her younger years, she owned and operated "The Chatter Box Café", a small diner on the main street of St Croix Falls, Wisconsin. She was a Girl Scout leader, saleswoman, and an antique shop owner. She loved yard sales, going to them and having them. She loved to go camping and canoeing. She enjoyed painting, gardening and was a handyman who solved most all her own fix-it problems.

Her favorite meal was fried potatoes with onions and homemade ice cream. After moving to Fairview, she craved Sonic chicken strips and tater tots, sandwiches on a dry bun, mini tacos from Bob's and crispy bacon. She loved her weekly outings with her "cousins" in recent years. She enjoyed discussing scripture, had an opinion on every topic and was never shy about expressing it. She loved family and family reunions. Lorena was very pleased when she became a great Aunt. She enjoyed company, especially children coming to visit her. She was and overcomer. As her eyesight began to fail, Lorena refused to let it get her down. She worked with an agency for the blind to learn how to continue to live alone and to remain independent. She listened every day to books for the blind. Her favorite books were non-fiction and autobiographies of historical figures. She surrounded herself throughout life with books of learning.

Before her eyesight failed Lorena enjoyed a good game of Scrabble or Skip-Bo. She often commented that she didn't like hanging around "old people" because they usually were too boring. She was what she called a "late bloomer" in the church, because she had given her heart to Christ at an older age. Lorena was baptized into the Isabella Nazarene Church on January 30, 2005. She often made the comment "At the end of the road I'll see Jesus."

Her church and church family were very important to her. She served as Sunday school treasurer, teacher for kindergarten, mission president, and served on the church board for a time. We as her family will remember her loving, giving nature, often looking out for us with care and concern.

Surviving her are one sister Mabel Trammell of Moundridge, KS, two brothers; LeeRoy Schmidt and wife Agnes of Paris, TX and Lincoln Schmidt of Bloomfield, Iowa, one brother in law Kenneth Schmidt of Moundridge, KS, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Mac, five brothers, five sisters, three nieces and one nephew.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Isabella Nazarene Church with the funeral home acting as custodian of the funds.
