Funeral Services for Lynn Dolan Penner, 77, of Cherokee, will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, December 7, 2010 at the Fairview First Church of the Nazarene. Reverend Timothy Dorsch will officiate. Burial will follow in Cedar Cemetery, Isabella, Oklahoma. Arrangements are by Fairview Funeral Home, Inc.
Viewing will be 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday and 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. on Monday and prior to the service at the church.
Lynn was born May 9, 1933 to Frank and Esther Alice (Becker) Penner in Isabella, Oklahoma and passed away December 3, 2010 in Enid, Oklahoma.
Lynn grew up in the Isabella area on the family farm and attended Okeene public schools, graduating in 1951. He joined the United States Army in 1953, where he was a trouble shooter and general repairman of Army vehicles. After his honorable discharge in 1955 he attended college at Oklahoma A&M for two years, earning his Technician Certificate in Diesel and Stationary Engines in May 1957. Following college, Lynn worked as a Master Mechanic, drove combines, and harvested for Virgil Naugle for numerous years. He worked in Bill Ryel's Machine Shop as a mechanic, welder, and harvested and drove trucks. When Bill Ryel retired, Butch Butler bought the machine shop and Lynn continued working there until his retirement in 2008. Lynn will always be remembered as a Master Mechanic and he was always happiest operating a combine during harvest. He will be truly missed by those that knew him.
He is survived by five sisters, Violet Eggers, Patsy Nobis, Anita Gifford, Jane Hamil and husband Larry, and Lois Hicks and Ron Miles; two brothers, Julian Penner and wife Sandra and Larry Penner and wife Sue.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers-in-law and one nephew.
Memorials may be made to the OMRF, Diabetes Division with Fairview Funeral Home Inc. acting as custodian.
