Funeral Services for Mabel Mae Thiessen 84 of Fairview will be held Wednesday, December 29 at 1:30 p.m. at the Mennonite Brethren Church of Fairview. Reverend Leonard Vogt will officiate. Burial will follow in the South Mennonite Brethren Cemetery. Arrangements made by Fairview Funeral Home, Inc.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 28, 2010 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Fairview Funeral Home, Inc.

Mabel was born May 20, 1926 to HBR and Maggie Flaming in Corn, Oklahoma. She was the sixth child added to the family that eventually totaled 12 children, seven brothers, and four sisters, all residing on a farm east of Corn. She passed away December 26, 2010 at the Fairview Regional Medical Center.

On April 30, 1944 she married Meno Stanley Kliewer, known as Stanley, from Fairview. Nine years later Stanley was killed in an electrical welding accident. Because at the age of 17 Mabel had polio that left her with severely crippled left hand it was obvious that she couldn't farm with three small children under the age of six. The farm equipment was sold and she moved to town where she lived until moving into the Fairview Fellowship Home in February, 2008.

Mabel enrolled in beauty school in Enid where she finished the course in February of 1958 and was featured in an article of the "The Sign Post" Oklahoma Rehabilitation Service newsletter about success in spite of handicaps. Her garage was converted into Mabel's Beauty Nook so she could work and still keep an eye on her young family.

On April 10, 1964, she was married to Walter Thiessen a bachelor from Gotebo. He gleefully introduced himself around town at Mr. Mabel Kliewer. She continued to work in her beauty shop and he worked at Waldon's in Fairview. After 38 years of marriage, Walter passed away, August 7, 2002 as a result of cancer. The same year Mabel hung up her shears after 44 years of making the women of the community beautiful.

Mabel was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, four sisters, her spouses, Stanley Kliewer and Walter Thiessen.

She is survived by her son, Randy Kliewer and wife Betty of Fairview; two daughters, Eileen and husband Charlie Atkins of Oklahoma City and Sonya and husband David Vann of Tahlequah; two brothers, Vern of Clinton and Leonard of Artesia, New Mexico; nine grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Memorials maybe made to Back to the Bible with Fairview Funeral Home, Inc. acting as custodian.
