Funeral Services for Marilyn Kay Wichert, 84, will be 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, October 31, 2023 at Saron Mennonite church in Orienta, Oklahoma.  Reverend Arnold Curby will officiate.  Arrangements are by Fairview Funeral Home, Inc.

Marilyn Kay Wichert was born a few miles west of Fairview, Oklahoma on May 17, 1939 to Harry and Linda (Gaede) Wichert and went to her heavenly home on October 25, 2023, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

She attended school in Fairview and graduated from Fairview High School.  After high school she attended and completed Business College in Enid. Oklahoma.  After college, Marilyn went to work for Dick Sturgeon Public Accountant in Enid, Oklahoma.  She then went to work for the Reames Motor Company , a Ford Dealership, in Fairview owned and operated by Russell and Vernon Reames.  Years later it became the Baker Ford where she worked until she retired.

Her mission in life was crocheting caps and little blankets for preemies and sent them to different hospitals.  She also made Afghans which she gave to people who had lost loved ones and to ones that were sick.  Marilyn sewed over 100 blankets for Uganda.  She also made quilts for Serving Christ Outreach in Fairview, and made at least one quilt every year for the MCC sale since it started.  This year she made quilts for the Fairview Police Department.  She played the accordion and piano with the Dan Wichert group and also the Herb Nickel group.  She performed in Enid, Watonga, Okeene, Fairview, and Cherokee Fellowship Homes, gave programs at different churches, the Major County fair, and the Senior Citizen Center in Fairview.  Once Marilyn went to give a program at the McAlester Prison, however, they had a problem at the prison so she could not perform for them so she played on the radio instead.

She accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior when Betty Dunham was helping in church service, baptized, and became a member of the Saron Mennonite Service, in 1955.  She also helped in Bible School, Auditing committee, food committee, choir, Christian endeavor committee, Pianist and Organist.

Marilyn is survived by her sister Marlene Young, Brother-in-law Rev. Dwain Young and many cousins and friends.

Memorials may be made to the Marlene Wichert Young Missions Scholarship or to Avant Ministers with the funeral home acting as custodians.
