A Memorial Service for Mark Kevin Nokes will be held 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 20, 2009, at the First Baptist Church in Cherokee, Oklahoma. The Reverend Tom Cooksey will officiate. Local arrangements are by Fairview Funeral Home, Inc.
Mark Kevin Nokes was born on August 5, 1960 to Elmer (Mickey and Glennis (Beltz) Nokes at the Alva General Hospital, Alva, Oklahoma. He died March 10, 2009 at his home in Lafayette, California.
Mark grew up on a farm 3 miles north and 5 west of Cherokee and attended Cherokee Schools. In 1978 he graduated from Cherokee High School. From High School he attended the University of Oklahoma graduating in May of 1983 with a degree in architectural Interior Design. Mark left Oklahoma in 1984 for South Pasadena, California. He began work with Hilton in their design department. He then moved to Oakland where he worked for Yates Silverman and designed the malls and restaurants Excalibur Casino.
In 1991, he went to work for Great City Traders where he became their major designer and Vice President of the company. After 9-11 Great City Traders dissolved and Mark went to work for Expo the design division of Home Depot. In 2006 Mark decided to leave Expo and start his own Design Business of Mark K. Nokes Design and on April 10, 2006 he married Mary Snyder in Reno, Nevada.
Mark is survived by his wife Mary of the home, two children Eric and wife Diane Snyder of Port St. Lucie, Florida, Kaitlyn and Jeremy Sands of West Pointe, New York; his father, Elmer Nokes and wife Gladys of Enid, two sisters, Terri and husband Roy Woodbury of Fairview and Sherri and husband Michael Hildick of Escondido, California; along with many nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and a host of other relatives and friends.
Mark was preceded in death by his mother Glennis.
Memorials may be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation with the Fairview Funeral Home, Inc. serving as custodian of the funds.
