Martha Virginia (Young) Baskerville was born in Aline, Oklahoma on July 2 1918 to Elmer Anderson Young and Lucy Ray (Brown) Young, and passed from this world on March 8 2012 in Edmond, Oklahoma.
Martha was the oldest of the seven Young children. She was raised in Fairview, Oklahoma and graduated from Fairview High School as their valedictorian in 1937. She married James (Ray) Baskerville on 7 January 1938, and raised two children the best she knew how. Ray, Martha, and Karen lived in Canada during World War 2 while Ray served in the Canadian Armed Forces. They returned to Oklahoma after the war and Bruce was born a few years later. The family also lived in Enid, Carmen, and Oklahoma City. In July 1999, Martha moved to Missouri to be near her daughter and son-in-law. She lived independently in Missouri for several years before she returned to Oklahoma to live with her son and daughter-in-law, and several assisted living facilities.
Martha had a good sense of humor and loved music. She particularly enjoyed listening to, and singing along with, her musically inclined siblings, their spouses/children, and her children and daughter-in-law. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren brought her a special joy. She eagerly followed the activities of her many nieces and nephews and enjoyed hearing the stories as they grew up and when they visited her in the nursing home. She dearly loved and was proud of the accomplishments of her children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
She was a member of the Selecman United Methodist Church in Oklahoma City, OK. She also served as an election official and as a hospital volunteer for many years.
During her final years, Martha experienced the increasing effects of Alzheimer's disease. In 2008, more than 40 members of her family gathered in Edmond, Oklahoma to celebrate her 90th birthday. Even though her recollection of the event dwindled, her family reconnected and celebrated.
Martha was predeceased by her beloved husband James (Ray) Baskerville in 1977, her parents Elmer A. Young and Lucy Rae (Brown) Young, sister Lois Darlene who died at 2 ½ years of age, brother James A. Young, sisters Bonnie J. (Young) Heer and Violet M. (Young) Marker, and brother Loren A. Young.
She was survived by daughter Karen Raye (Baskerville) Cronin and husband Scottie; son Bruce Alan Baskerville and wife Betty; granddaughters Robin Rae (Cronin) Berry and husband Danny, and Connie D. Cronin; two great grand children; four great-great grandchildren; brother Elmer A. Young and wife Maxine; and many loving nieces and nephews.
