Funeral Services for Melvin Dale Penner, age 80, of Fairview, will be held at 2:30 p.m., Thursday, May 5, 2016 at the Church of God in Christ Mennonite, Fairview. The Reverend Donald Koehn will officiate. Burial will follow in the Cedar Cemetery east of Fairview. Arrangements are by Fairview Funeral Home, Inc.
Melvin was born February 21, 1936 in Isabella, Oklahoma to John and Amanda (Koehn) Penner and passed away April 30, 2016 in Enid, Oklahoma. He attended school at the Isabella School where he finished the eighth grade and then helped his father on the family farm full time. He married Marie Koehn in October of 1961 and they were blessed with two children, Gary and Berneta.
Melvin was a hard worker and worked numerous jobs through the years. While working for Vernon Fast he helped construct many new homes on the west side of Fairview. In his later years he worked for Mabar where he retired after 21 years of employment.
He was a kind and quiet man who worked hard all of his life. Melvin loved to walk and would walk all over the country side and later in life after moving to the Fairview Fellowship Home would still walk around town. Melvin was loved by his family and friends and will be truly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Marie of the home, son, Gary Penner of Isabella, OK, daughter Berneta Kimbrell of Enid, OK, sisters; Betty Penner of Moundridge, KS and Lou Ella Deming of Livingston, CA, three grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and three sisters.
