Obituary

Funeral Services for Norman Lesley Dow, 83, of Fairview, will be held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, January 11, 2013, at the Elm Grove Community Church in Chester, Oklahoma with the Reverend Orville White officiating. Arrangement by Fairview Funeral Home Inc.

Norman L. Dow was born on November 26th, 1929 to Ernest E. and Evaline M. (Patterson) Dow. He passed away January 7th, 2013 at St. Mary's Hospital in Enid, Oklahoma. He was 83 years old.

Norman was raised on the family farm west of Fairview. He attended Dane Country School for 8 years and graduated from Fairview High School in 1947. His friends in school nicknamed him "Wild Bill" because he rode his horse fast and wild. Norman married Mary Lee Ewbank on November 15th, 1950 at her parents' home.

Norman served active duty in the Army for two years and five years in the reserves. He was honorably discharged and moved to Wichita, Kansas. He worked for Boeing and Beach Aircraft and attended Wichita University. He then moved to Cherokee, Oklahoma and worked for the City of Cherokee.

Norman and his family then moved to Fairview where he worked for the City of Fairview as the Electrical Department Superintendent and Assistant City Manager. He served on the Fairview Volunteer Fire Department for many years. He started Dow Electric Company in 1970 with his wife Mary Lee. He was an Electrical Contractor and taught Electrical classes at Fairview Vo-Tech. He also farmed and raised cattle.

Norman retired in 1992. He was a member of the Walter P. Chrysler club. He loved playing cards at the Senior Citizens Center, spending time with his dear friend and companion Norma Roy, and arguing politics with his Republican friends. He had an esteemed writing career that earned him the title of "Major County's Number One Democrat".

Norman is survived by his three children; Stan Dow and wife Ann of Norman, Felicia Stratton and her husband Jim of Edmond, Clayton Dow and his wife Yvette of Perry. His six grandchildren; Brandy Runyan, Graham Dayton, Lauren Dow, Austin Dow, Ben Liman, and Sarah Holland-Bailey. Five great grandchildren; Makala, Paige, and Kenzi Dayton, Parker and Cooper Runyan, and Grayson Bailey. And his brother Ivan Dow.

He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Lee, 2 children; Randy Lee and Deborah Gay Dow, one great grandchild Isaac Dayton, his parents, and two sisters; Reola Bell Grammer and Katheryn Nyalene Fortune; and one brother Victor Nile Dow.
