Obituary

Funeral Services for Nyalene Fortune, 73, will be 2:30 p.m., Friday, February 29, 2008 at the Midway Assembly of God Church southwest of Fairview, Oklahoma. The Reverend Orville White will officiate. Burial will follow in the Bethel Cemetery. Arrangements are by Fairview Funeral Home, Inc.

Katheryn Nyalene Fortune was born April 7, 1934 to Earnest and Eveline (Patterson) Dow at Fairview, Oklahoma and passed away February 26, 2008 at Fairview Regional Medical Center in Fairview.

Nyalene grew up on the family farm west of Fairview and attended Dane Rural School. On May 12, 1951 she married Robert Lee Fortune in Fairview. After her husband was discharged from the service, they moved to Wichita, Kansas. They returned to the Fairview area in 1965. Nyalene worked for numerous people as a secretary. She worked for the City of Fairview for several years. She also worked at the Fairview Packing Plant as a meat processor for a few years. Nyalene loved collecting jewelry and spending time finding treasures at thrift stores, not only for herself but for friends as well. She even volunteered at the local thrift shop. Genealogy was of great interest to her and she cared for Bethel Cemetery for numerous years. She was a member of the Midway Assembly of God Church and belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary.

She is survived by her son, Kenny and Donna Fortune of Longdale, Oklahoma; two daughters, Kathy and Rick Koehn of Fairview and Arda and Ron Waltman of Longdale; two brothers Ivan and wife Jessie Dow of Longdale and Norman Dow of Fairview; loving companion Roy Fortune of Medicine Lodge, Kansas; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Robert; sister Reola Grammer; and brother Victor Dow.

Memorial contributions may be made to Bethel Cemetery with Fairview Funeral Home Inc. acting as custodians.
