August 28, 1917 - March 16, 2014

A funeral service for Opal Nickel, 96, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 20, 2014, at the First United Methodist Church of Fairview. The Reverend Richert Redinger will officiate. Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery in Enid, OK. Arrangements are by Fairview Funeral Home, Inc.
Opal Faye Nickel was born on August 28, 1917, to John and Goldie (Smith) Means in Carmen, Oklahoma, and she passed from this life March 16, 2014. Opal lived her entire adult life in Major County. She met Abe when they were "farming neighbors," living North of Fairview. Opal and Abe were married on January 15, 1934, in Alva, Oklahoma. To this union was born three sons; Ray, Leroy and Jerry. They continued their farm life together while also milking cows, selling milk, cream and eggs to help make ends meet.
Opal was known for her love of small children, evidenced by her 50 plus years of serving in the nursery at Fairview United Methodist Church. She also worked at Love's Country Store for over twenty years.
Opal was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one sister, two brothers and one son, Ray.

Opal leaves behind two sons: Leroy and wife Twila Nickel of Fairview, OK; Jerry and wife Nina of Arnett, OK; seven grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Memorials can be made to the Fairview United Methodist Church Nursery with the funeral home acting as custodian of the funds.
