Obituary

Orville Glenn Neufeld was born to H.C. & Anna (Toews) Neufeld of Fairview, Oklahoma, on November 8, 1937. He was the youngest of eight predeceased siblings: Helen Epp, Marvin Neufeld, Alma Schroeder, Frank Nickel, Elereeca Toews, Isaac Neufeld, and Norma Jean Boehr.

Orville attended Progressive Grade School and Corn Bible Academy, Corn, OK. At age nine he made a decision to follow Jesus Christ as his Savior, was baptized in the sand pit near Orienta, OK, and became a member of the South Mennonite Brethren Church of Fairview. He was predeceased by the love of his life, Ida Penner from Bessie, OK, with whom he enjoyed 60 years of marriage and raised two sons, Phillip and Charles. Orville attended Tabor College prior to receiving a Bachelors in Chemistry from Southwestern State College (1959), a Masters and PhD in Pharmacology from the University of Arkansas (1968), and a Doctor of Osteopathy from the Kansas City College of Osteopathic Medicine (1973). He taught briefly at the University of California at San Francisco School of Medicine, served as Chair of the Department of Pharmacology at KCCOM, then moved his family to Fairview, OK, in 1974, establishing a private medical practice.

Through his medical practice Orville became known as "Doc" to the people of Fairview, delivering many babies; assisting and performing surgery; and teaching EMT's, nurses, residents, and interns. During their 17 years in Fairview, Orville and Ida were active in the Fairview Mennonite Brethren Church as youth sponsors, deacons, and elders.

In 1991, Orville and Ida moved to Monument, CO, where Orville worked as an emergency room physician, served the Colorado Department of Corrections as a physician to inmates and physician advisor, and served as a medical-legal consultant and witness for the Colorado Attorney General's office.

In 2017, Orville and Ida returned to Fairview. Ida enjoyed ten months in their new home, passing away in October, 2017. Orville subsequently became involved in the Grief Share program sponsored by Fairview MB Church. In January 2023, a series of medical setbacks necessitated skilled nursing care. He went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, at the age of 85 on March 28, 2023.

Orville is survived by his sons Phil (Joyce) Neufeld of Denver, CO, and Chuck (Judi) Neufeld of Greenwood, SC; his grandchildren Corina (Darren) Enns, Andy (Emily) Neufeld, Bryan (Keiko) Neufeld, Lauren (Nick) Ediger and Kirsten Neufeld; and his great granddaughter Evangeline Enns.

A memorial service in Fairview, OK, will be held at a later date to be announced. The family suggests that memorial contributions be designated for the Department of Science and Mathematics, Tabor College, 400 S. Jefferson, Hillsboro, KS 67063 or online at https://tabor.edu/alumni-friends/give-online .
