Memorial services for Peggy Joann (Cook) Murphy, 85, of Woodward, Oklahoma, will be on September 20th, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at the Fairview Funeral Home Chapel. Arrangements are by Fairview Funeral Home Inc.,
Peggy Joann (Cook) Murphy was born on April 4, 1940 on the family farm near Canton, Oklahoma, to Delmer Dewitt and Ruth Zella (Waddle) Cook and passed away on September 5, 2025 in Fairview, Oklahoma. She completed school in 1958 and went on the road with a traveling band for a year until 1959 when her son Rickey was born. She then lived and worked in Woodward at the Fruit of The Loom Factory. In 1960 her daughter Rita joined the family.
Murphy, as most people knew her as, spent most of her life working as a bartender. Working as a bartender made her a tough lady that could take care of anything that happened in the bar. However, she was a kind and gentle woman that would give you the shirt off her back. She was a western girl that always kept her pants starched, boots on, and dressed to the 9s. Murphy had two best friends, Sophie and Phylis that she ran around with when they were younger and stayed in contact with all of her life.
Murphy was always giving of herself, and raised her granddaughter, Pepper. She was a great lady that was loved by those that knew her and will be truly missed
She is survived by her son Rickey Dean Cook and daughter Rita Karpe, brother Gene Cook, sister Bonita Boston and three grandchildren; Pepper Cook and fiancé Marc Sutton, Jyrred Cook and his wife Shawna, and Daniel Piper and his wife Juliana, and four great-grandchildren; Ryder and Madilyn Cook and Asa and Alora, many nieces and nephews, and her best friend Phylis Mitchell.
Murphy was preceded in death by her parents, one brother Millard Cook and Millard's wife Carol, one sister Della Carter and Della's husband Bob, one sister-in-law Evelyn Cook, one nephew Melvin "Bo" Cook and her daughter-in-law Margret Cook, and one of her lifelong friends, Sharon "Sophie" Evans.
