Funeral Services for Pete L. Goosen age 89, will be held at 10:00 am, Thursday, November 6, 2008, at the Mennonite Brethren Church of Fairview. The Reverend Leonard Vogt will officiate. Burial will follow at the North Mennonite Brethren Cemetery of Fairview. Arrangements are by Fairview Funeral Home, Inc.

Visitation will be Tuesday and Wednesday the 4th and 5th of November between the hours of 9 am and 5 pm at the funeral home.

Pete was born April 16, 1919, in Hooker, Oklahoma, to Pete and Susie Lowen Goosen and died Sunday, November 2, 2008, at St. Mary's in Enid, Oklahoma.

Pete was raised on a farm west of Adams, Oklahoma where he attended grade school. He met Elsie Weis at the Harvest Music Festival at the Mennonite Brethren Church conference in Fairview, Oklahoma. Pete and Elsie were married on July 21, 1940 on the Weis family farm west of Fairview. To this union they had 2 children, a daughter Janeth Wynell and one son Merl. Pete was baptized July 20, 1941 at the Mennonite Brethren Church in Fairview. He farmed in the Adams area before moving to the Cedar Springs area of Major County in 1946.

Pete and Elsie enjoyed their neighbors in the community of Cedar Springs where their children went to vacation bible school at the Cedar Springs Church of the Nazarene. There they farmed on land rented from the Oklahoma School Land Commission. He not only raised cattle and wheat but also worked for the Fairview Livestock sale for 35 years. Pete designed and built farm machinery and many other items to help him in his farm work with only a 6th grade education. He also continued his hobby of welding throughout his life. Elsie and Pete Celebrated 60 years of marriage before her passing in 2000.

He is preceded in death by his wife, one brother and three sisters.

He is survived by his daughter, Janeth Watson and husband James of Stillwater; one son, Merl Goosen of Oklahoma City; one sister, Elizabeth Ann Vancampen of Guymon, 3 grandchildren, Terri and Gary Cole of Stillwater, James and Stacey Watson of Norman and Mark and Amber Watson of Broken Arrow; 3 great grandchildren, Joshua and Dawson Watson and Lakin Cole; and a host of other relatives and friends.
