Raymond Wesley Hummel was born December 16, 1929 in Moore, Oklahoma to Winfred and Jennie (Stone) Hummel and passed away Friday, May 25, 2018 in Oklahoma City.
Raymond attended Schwarts Elementary School for his first six years of school. Following high school Raymond went to work. Never afraid of hard work, he was a good dozer hand and ran a brush-hog for many years. He went to work for Jack Griffen, moving mobile homes, until his retirement. He and Veda Lee Howerton were married on December 3, 1965 in Edmond, Oklahoma. With marriage, he gained not only a wife but a daughter, Veda Gaylena "Gay", who he raised as his own. Their marriage lasted 37 wonderful years until Veda passed away in 2003. Raymond was a loving father and grandfather, helping raise his four grandkids while Gay went to college and worked to support them. Raymond instilled in all of them the lesson of working hard and taking pride in what you have. He was a member of the Hilltop Baptist Church. Raymond loved cattle ranching and baling hay. They raised a huge garden and enjoyed sharing its bounty. Playing pool, country/western dancing and hunting were just a few of his hobbies but his greatest joy came from spending time with his family.
Surviving Raymond is: his daughter Gay Thrasher, four grandchildren, five great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents, one brother, Ivan and four sisters; Lilly Lois, Jennie Lee and Pearl, and one great granddaughter Christa Gay Shelby.
Memorial contributions may be made to OMRF- Diabetes with the funeral home.
