It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Richard "Rick" Byron Wiens, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, who peacefully left this world surrounded by family on January 6, 2025.

Rick was a man of deep faith, following in the footsteps of his Savior as a carpenter who built not only with his hands but with his heart. Known to his brothers in arms as "Sundance," Rick cherished the lifelong bonds forged during the war, remaining deeply connected with his Delta family through yearly reunions and regular calls filled with memories and mutual support. Their bond was unbreakable, and Rick found solace and purpose in their enduring connection.

Rick was also an Army Ranger. After leaving basic training, Rick went to Advanced Individual Training (AIT), one of the most grueling military programs designed to test physical endurance, mental resilience, and leadership under extreme conditions. Among his many military distinctions, he earned two Bronze Stars, one of which was awarded with the "V" distinction, recognizing acts of heroism during combat. He also received an Air Medal, two Army Commendation Medals (one with a "V" device for valor), an Army Good Conduct Medal, a National Defense Service Medal, a Vietnam Service Medal with two bronze stars, and a Vietnam Campaign Medal.

Additionally, Rick was honored with numerous prestigious military badges and citations: the Combat Infantryman Badge, Jump Wings, Presidential Unit Citation, Meritorious Unit Citation, Ranger Tab, Air Mobile Tab, Honorary Air Assault Badge, and the Submarine Qualified Device ("Dolphins"). These symbols of valor and achievement reflect his unparalleled dedication and bravery.

A proud Oklahoman, Rick grew up on a small Centennial farm in Isabella, Oklahoma, and graduated from Fairview High School before attending Tabor College. He was a skilled carpenter whose mastery of steel, glass, and wood brought beauty and utility into the world. Whether crafting furniture, stained glass, drawing, fixing what was broken, or teaching others his crafts, Rick approached his work with humility and care, always mentoring those fortunate enough to learn from him.

Rick's passions extended beyond his work. He loved hunting, collecting, spending time with his family, and working on his 1936 Chevrolet truck, a treasure that he restored with dedication and proudly showcased at car shows. His warmth and wisdom enriched the lives of everyone he encountered. He lived for nearly 42 wonderful years with his beloved wife, Terre, creating a legacy of love and devotion that continues through their children and grandchildren.

Rick was preceded in death by his mother, Marcella Wiens; his father, Allen Richard Wiens; and his grandparents, Peter and Katharina Wiens and Fred and Marguerite Hamm. He is survived by his cherished wife, Terre Wiens; his children, Matt (Stacey) Wiens, Jeff (Katie) Wiens, Adam (Jacinta) Wiens, Katie (Chris) Foote, and Kelle (Jonathan) Jeffrey; and his treasured grandchildren Mikey, Scott, Ethan, Emma, Skyler, Anderson, Aiden, Dylan, Norah, Georgia, and Jack. He also leaves behind his siblings Reg (Kathy) and Doug (Debbie) Wiens and Marguerite (Greg) Schmidt, along with their children, who were a source of strength and joy. In addition, he is survived by his stepmother, Mary Lou Wiens, and her daughter, Dianna Just, whom he loved dearly and held close to his heart. Additionally, he is survived by his beloved Aunt Bev, who was a treasure in his life, and his cousins Steve and Pam, who held a special place in his heart.

A memorial service celebrating Rick's life will be held on January 25, 2025, at 10 AM at Fairview Mennonite Brethren Church, 1600 East State Rd, Fairview, OK. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Stacked Deck, 1st Cavalry, Delta Company Second of the 12th, an organization that was close to Rick's heart.

Rick's legacy of love, craftsmanship, mentorship, and service will be forever cherished. His zest for life, his compassion, and his steadfast faith touched the lives of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed, but his spirit lives on in the hearts of his family, friends, and the countless lives he impacted.
