Funeral services for Russell Beverly Houk, of Okeene, will be 2:30 p.m., Monday, February 13, 2017 at the Fairview Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Roselawn Cemetery, Okeene, Oklahoma. Arrangements are by Fairview Funeral Home Inc.
Russell Beverly Houk was born on November 7, 1939 in Okeene, Oklahoma to Lewis Beverly "L. B" and Ruth Nadine (Chamberlain) Houk and passed away Thursday, February 9, 2017 at the Okeene Municipal Hospital Okeene.
Russell spent his childhood moving with his family from place to place. His parents settled in the Okeene/Fairview area and he graduated with the Okeene High School Class of '58. He went to college at Oklahoma State University and received a BS in Animal Husbandry. Russell entered the work force working for Hahn Trucking where he hauled grain for Ivol Hardy at Roth, Oklahoma. Eventually buying his own grain truck, he began his own grain hauling business. Russell also farmed and ranched where he enjoyed raising registered Hereford and Barzona Cattle. He was even featured in the Enid News and Eagle with his cattle.
Russell married Jean Hampton in the early 80's and gained three step children; Mike Hampton, Dawn King and Susan Hampton. He enjoyed following local sports events. He could talk your leg off about agronomy, cattle and husbandry. He loved OSU and his Pokes, watching classic westerns and listening to Cowboy Corner on K101. But he really lit up when he got visits from his great-nephew Jacob.
Surviving him are his nieces and nephews; Eric Helveston and his wife Marcy of Wagoner, OK, Tawana Bailey of Georgia, Shawn Houk and his wife Michelle of Oklahoma City, OK, Brad Houk of Phoeniz, AZ, Katherine Faulk and her husband Paul of Fairview, OK, great nieces and nephews; Carson, Jacob and Ryan Faulk, Garrett and Lauren Relja, Billy Sides, Crystal Terrell and Brandy Ruck as well as three step-children; Mike Hampton, Dawn King and Susan Hampton.
Preceding him in death is: his father, L. B. and step mother Dorothy Houk, step-father Charles and Ruth Nadine Calef, one brother Robert Lewis Houk, and one sister Margaret Ruth Helveston.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Okeene FFA with the funeral home acting as custodian of the funds.
