"Sally" Ella Ester Boehs' Obituary
Funeral services for "Sally" Ella Esther Boehs will be 3:30 p.m., Monday, November 27, 2017 at the Central Christian Church in Fairview, Oklahoma. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery. Arrangements are by Fairview Funeral Home Inc.
"Sally" Ella Ester Howerton Boehs, was born on April 5th, 1923, southwest of Fairview, to Gilbert and May Stearns Howerton. She was the eighth of nine children. A tenth child was lost in childbirth along with her mother when Ella was three. Life was hard growing up. Older sisters Anna and Edna took on the role of "mother" even though they were only children too. There was little food and clothing, and only a horse to travel by. All of the children worked hard on the farm. Mom attended area schools and at the age of fourteen, while attending a Mountain View School Revival, she went forward during altar call and gave her life to Christ. Later, at the age of 19, mom was baptized at the Central Christian Church in Fairview. The Christian Church continued to be her place of worship throughout her life.
At the age of 18, she was able to leave home and move to Fairview. She took a job as housekeeper and caretaker of two children for $3.00 a week and meals. This was followed by another similar job and then a position at the White Rock Cafe where she cooked, cleaned, and worked as a waitress for $7.00 a week, seven days a week. Her working career later continued on to the IGA grocery store as clerk, checker, Stocker, and whatever else needed done.
On November 11th, 1945 Sally married Jake Boehs. Together they worked at farming both here and in southeastern Colorado. They moved to Eads, Colorado in 1950 but hard conditions and poor crops brought them home to Fairview in 1959. Money was tight and Mom said she bought a lot of mackerel because it was the cheapest meat she could find. From this start, children Bruce, Randall, Kathy, and Gary were born into the family. Mom's heart was in raising her children, making sure they knew God and went to church, and making a home. She was an excellent cook and cooked many harvest meals for the hired hands and family. She also chased cattle, moved equipment, and whatever other tasks were required or asked of her, on top of keeping up the house and the care of four children. Mom worked hard and through it all had an amazing gratitude for life regardless of many difficulties and trials. Mom's humor was contagious and she innocently encouraged the joking and pranking that came naturally to her children. Many happy memories were made with her while sitting down to supper and sharing the day's events. As the years passed, marriages occurred and with that came the addition of grandchildren. Mom's role to be their loved and trusted "Nannie" brought her great joy. She was always interested in their lives and eager to give them nuggets of advice and wisdom, cook them their favorite foods, and collect toys to keep that were picked just for them. Nannie's capacity to love and be interested in her grandchildren and then great-grandchildren showed daily in her conversations and actions. She always wanted to know what was going on in their lives and that they were ok. She was everyone's prayer warrior. In her last days she whispered "I think God has been good to me" and "If you need help, ask Jesus to help you and He will". Mom's faith was strong.
On November 23rd, 2017, Mom's Savior and best friend called her home. Her favorite verse was Hebrews 13:5 "He will never leave you nor forsake you". She leaned on the verse throughout her life and today she celebrates its truth.
Sally is survived by son Bruce and wife Sherry Boehs, Fairview; son Randall Boehs, Edmond; daughter Kathy and husband John Robison, Fairview; son Gary and wife Cindy Boehs, Fairview. Grandchildren are Brock Robison and wife Kari, and great¬grandchildren Kinlee Jo and Brower Robison all of Fairview, Brigit Robison, Stillwater, Jared Boehs and wife Carissa of Piedmont, Tessa Wicks and husband Ryan, and great-grandchild Luke Wicks all of Edmond, Jordan Boehs and wife Danielle, and great-grandchild Grayson Boehs, all of Edmond: and Joshua Boeh and fiancé Racheal Beckner of Stillwater, Haylee Winsett and husband Caleb and great grandchildren, Corban, Cruz, and Carsten of Bethel, OK...
In lieu of Flower, memorial may be made to the Central Christian Church with the Fairview Funeral Home acting as custodian .
