Sheridan Gail Rose's Obituary
A Celebration of Life Memorial Services for Sheridan Gail Rose, 85, will be held at 10:00 am, Thursday, June 18, 2009 at the Fairview Methodist Church. Reverend Rich Redinger will officiate. Local arrangements are by Fairview Funeral Home, Inc. Final Resting place will be at the Mount Vernon Memorial Park, Honor Guard Section in Fair Oaks, California.
Sheridan Gail Rose was born Oct. 13, 1923, in Longdale to James and Mary Adeline (Tucker) Rose and surrounded by his loved ones passed away June 16, 2009 in Fairview.
He attended school in Longdale and graduated in Sacramento, Calif. He joined the Army just out of high school and served with the 3rd Army 387th Acorn, under the direction of General Patton. He was a section leader and forward observer and commanded 81 mm mortar unit in the 87th division. He earned three Battle Stars-Ardennes (The Battle of the Bulge), Rhineland (Rhine, Czechoslovakia), receiver of Combat Infantry Badge, Bronze Star, Sharp Shooter Badge, and Expert Infantry Badge. After WWII, he attended college in Sacramento where he met and married Bonnie Sophia Martin in December of 1947. To this union of 55 years was born his children, Sheila, Debra and Sheridan Dale.
He retired after 38 years with the California Department of Justice. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, and a Shriner through which he volunteered his services to the Shriner's Children's Hospital. He was an elder of the 1st Christian Church and a member of the VFW. In 2006, he married his WWII sweetheart, Doris Opal Taylor, at which time he gained children, Sherry, Pam and Kenny. He loved dancing, camping, traveling and spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Doris Shelburne Rose of the home; his children, Sheila Rose, Debra (Rose) Cardullo, Sheridan Dale Rose and wife, Rochelle all of California; six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews; step-children, Sherry Shelburne, Pam and Kenny Ellis, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren all of Fairview.
He was preceded in death by his father, mother, wife Bonnie, brothers Haver Rose, Charles Rose, sisters, Opal Sholtess and Leone Canary.
Memorials may be made to Fairview Hospital or Longdale Gym Association with Fairview Funeral Home, Inc. acting as custodian.
