Sophia Nightingale Nightingale was born to Alfred and Ida (Unruh) Nightingale on November 3, 1927 at Verden, Oklahoma. She departed this life very suddenly on January 28, 2008, reaching the age of eighty years,
Mother grew up on the family farm near Verden, Oklahoma. As a children we enjoy her recollections of happy childhood days.
She was converted and baptized into the Church of God in Christ Mennonite on February 3, 1942. She was a great believer in prayer. Her consistent walk of life assures us that she is safe at home.
She was united in marriage to me, Vernon Nightingale on May 25, 1947, by Minister Eben Nightingale at Chickasha, Oklahoma, sharing life's joys and sorrows for sixty years. This union was blessed with one son and five daughters.
They spent their married life at Fairview Oklahoma. She had a compassionate heart and enjoyed giving herself in quite service to others. Hospitality was an important part of her life. She supported Dad when he did volunteer work, cheerfully keeping the family farm running smoothly.
She had a deep concern for her children and grandchildren often giving a gentle encouraging word. Life was not always easy for her but she bore her burden with a smile. We will especially miss her welcoming smile when we come home.
