Obituary

Memorial Services for Terry Bruce Elwell, 52, of Fairview, will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, November 22, 2008 at the Central Christian Church in Fairview, Oklahoma. The Reverend Ronnie Hopkins will officiate. Arrangements are by the Fairview Funeral Home, Inc.

Visitation will be Friday, November 21, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Fairview Funeral Home Inc.

Bruce was born December 19, 1955 in Enid, Oklahoma to Dwayne Elwell and Florice LaMunyon and passed away November 18, 2008 at his home in Fairview, Oklahoma.

Bruce attended and graduated from Fairview Public Schools in 1974. After graduation he attended Northwestern University in Alva graduating with a Bachelors Degree in Business in 1984

Bruce served as County Commissioner for more than 21 years. He was sworn into his seat on the District Three County Commission in 1987. Bruce began to assume leadership positions that reached beyond Major County to the state and national levels. He held positions on the Association of County Commissioners of Oklahoma Board of Directors, serving as Secretary/Treasurer and President. He represented the interests of Major County and the rural Oklahoma at the state capital. Bruce also served as president of the Oklahoma County Officers and Deputies Association for two consecutive years, and the Board of Directors for the National Association of Counties for more than ten years.

Bruce was committed to his county and the people in it. He was honored by the county for numerous contributions. Bruce will be missed by family, and friends and co-workers

He is survived by his mother, Florice Elwell of Fairview, three brothers, Randy Elwell of Fairview; Tim Elwell of Chester, and Steve Elwell Fairview; many nieces and nephews, along with a host of friends.

He is preceded in death by his father, Dwayne Elwell, and his grandparents.

Memorials may be made to the Central Christian Church of Fairview with the Fairview Funeral Home acting as custodian.
