Thora Lee Baird's Obituary
Funeral for Thora Lee Baird, 90, will be1:30 p.m., Friday, February 1, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church of Fairview. The Rev. Rich Redinger will officiate. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery. Arrangements have been made by Fairview Funeral Home.
Thora Lee was born January 16, 1923, in her grandparent's home near Cedar Springs to Alonzo (Lon) and Beulah (Green) McKee and died January 29, 2013 at Fairview Fellowship Home.
She moved to Canton with her parents and attended Canton elementary school until the eighth grade. Later her parents bought a farm in what is now the middle of Canton Lake where she lived and attended Longdale High School. She played on the girls' basketball team, and graduated in 1941.
On June 7, 1941 Thora Lee married Carl Evert Baird in Fairview, OK. They lived in Canadian, Texas where he worked for Santa Fe Railroad. When Carl was drafted into the Army she returned home to live with her parents until his discharge in 1945. They then moved to Weatherford, Oklahoma while Carl attended Southwestern College where he graduated with a pharmacy degree in June of 1950. They bought a drug store in Okeene, Oklahoma but sold it a short time later when Carl was called back into the Army during the Korean War. They moved to Midwest City where Carl was stationed at Tinker AFB. He was honorably discharged in 1952 and they moved to Fairview where they bought Johnson Drug Store. For 20 years they worked together in this store. They had an agreement that she would manage the front of the store and he would manage the pharmacy department. They sold the store and retired in 1972. In retirement they continued farming land they owned in the Chester area.
Thora Lee was an active member of First United Methodist Church, Gamma Mother's Club and several different bridge clubs.
Surviving are her daughter Carlene Moose & husband Allen of Fairview: grandson, Mark Moose and wife Traci of Tulsa; Christi Murray and husband Nathan of Elma, Washington; and four great-grandchildren, Alexandria and Tyler Moose and Wesley and Carlee Murray.
She was preceded in death by her husband Carl Baird.
Memorials may be made to First United Methodist church of Fairview with the funeral home acting as custodian.
